The Return of The Chiefs
Posted on June 13, 2010 at 12:03 PM.
If you're wondering about the flurry of initial dynasty updates and were concerned that I have simply locked myself in the basement to play Madden 10 and guide the Chiefs to the Superbowl in one sitting. Not even close!
It's going to take two or three days of being locked in the basement!

Regular Season (Weeks 6-17):
Chargers @ KC - Lose 30-23
* A division rivalry. That's gotta hurt! That's puts us at 2-5 for the season.

Week #8 - Bye Week

KC @ Jags - Lose 9-6
* I may mention this a few more times, but I find one of the toughest things to do as a GM is to confidently make decisions and moves and then have the patience and confidence to believe they were the right way to go and wait for them to pan out. Still waiting... Now 2-6.

KC @ Raiders - WIN 27-3-21
* Another crucial divison rivalry. Not only do we have to focus on beating those above us, but maintaining the separation with those below us. Chiefs take the Raiders for the second time this season.

Steelers @ KC - Lose 23-20 (ot)
* A tough contest against a very good team. Nice to push it to OT, but disappointing not to come away with the victory. The 3-7 record is starting to sting.

KC @ Chargers - Lose 34-10
* Losing again to division rival Chargers hurts. Clearly we were both outgunned and still focusing on the tough Steeler loss the week before. That produced another number for the "L" column.

Broncos @ KC - Lose 27-20
* Close, but... Based on the season, I am confident we are no better than third in the AFC West. Now 3-9 and in jeoprady of repeating last years performance when the expectations were so much more.

Bills @ KC - WIN 17-6
* At this point in the season, to Lose 2-in-a-row at home would have been deadly, almost assuring a pretty sparse crowd for the final home game and plenty of grumbling in the off-season. But, the boys came through against the Bills!

Browns @ KC - WIN 14-3
* As Collingsworth would say, "The Chiefs are on a bit of a roll now..."! Back to back wins to close out the home schedule is fantastic. That puts us at 5-9 for the season and graphically shows the rebuilding process in progress.

KC @ Bengals - WIN 27-19
* WOW! I think I mentioned earlier that it's both a blessing and curse to get on a roll. Three wins in a row suggest we may be on the right track with the re-building process, but it's never a good time to get too over confident.

KC @ Broncos - Lose 24-17
* I guess it was too much to ask to go 4-0 in the last four games of the year. We closed out with a loss to our division rivals.

The Chiefs end the 2009 season with a record of 6-10. Based on both the record of last year (2-14) and with the boost of winning the last three of four games, including a couple of home victories, the season ended on a hopeful note.

Pro-Bowlers 2009:
TE Pope
WR Bowe
DT Edwards - All will go to the Pro-Bowl this year. Another sign that The Chiefs have turned the corner and should be in great shape for the coming season.

SUPER BOWL 2009 - New York Giants 24 - Baltimore Ravens 23

Off-Season preparations for 2010 (Franchise year 2) next update...
