WWE '13 Back in Stores Under 2K Brand Stuck
Posted on March 26, 2013 at 02:10 PM.

Kind of interesting to see 2K get cracking on the WWE license right away, but not in the way you might think. Since they scooped up the license from THQ, they've clearly been anxious to cash in on the love that WWE '13 has received, especially since they announced WWE '14 almost immediately, which shows that a product probably didn't even exist other than on a financial ledger.

The WWE 2K Games Facebook page had the announcement, indicating that WWE '13 is back in stores, but now with a 2K logo prominently displayed on the box. This is certainly good news for anyone who missed out on the product on its initial run, but clearly 2K just wants to squeeze a few clams out of the 2013 release before seeing what kind of steam they want to put behind the next game.

It's ultimately an encouraging sign that they're getting behind the brand this early, but the jury is still out on what type of product they're going to make later this year (and what platforms it might or might not be on). It would be nice to know some of the particulars so people can start getting excited and providing feedback, but we probably won't know much until E3 in June.

I know THQ is no longer around but it just seems weird that they'd re-release the game using the new company on the box even though the old company made the game.
THQ no longer being around means that there isn't a company around to continue printing, and shipping copies of the game anymore.

There is no time of the year when interest in the WWE product is higher, given that Wrestlemania is only a couple of weeks away, so it makes a ton of sense for 2K to publish new copies of the game to keep stock on shelves when interest is at a high for the year, and if 2K is now publishing it, why wouldn't they put their logo on the box?

2K said, they are keeping the original producers on to make the game and they will learn from them. 2K said, they will sprinkle a little of them in the game this year and go full blown next year with their producers/developers.

Does 2K now control the online servers as well?

@DJ I was thinking the saame thing! Lol. It's going to be nice to see 2K have another major sports title. I can see it now, 3 on 3 online street fighting matches outside with your caw's. After a few roster updates and the release of the new Cena 6 Jordans, the servers will be the last thing on your mind.

Interesting! But the real question is: Will they even bother to release a patch that fixes the many bugs in the game now that their cashing on it!? Seriously doubt it!

If any this will just be to get some dumb collectors to buy a second version of the game. And over time I wonder which version will be worth more? The sealed version with the THQ logo, or sealed version with the 2k logo. And were talking about 2k here, they make a big deal over who is on the cover of their games... Not to mention releasing 2+ versions of their own, like NBA2k11 with 3 different covers.

Makes sense as they are now "publishing" new copies of the game seeing as THQ doesn't exist to make any more copies.
