Sitting in the locker room after the game, Ronnie Hillman finally catches his breath. The young sophomore wipes his brow with a towel and exhales a gignatic sigh of relief.

"That was fun," Ronnie chuckles as he recollects the previous 4 quarters of football.

It sure looked like it. In a game that should have been over by halftime, the Aztecs' countless mistakes and sloppy play in the first half kept the Cal Poly Mustangs in a lot longer than what they should have been. But trust in Ronnie...and you shall be delievered.

Hillman ran for 214 yards on 22 carries, and 3 TDs in the overall route of the neighbors just up I-5, and looked good doing it...despite the attempt by everyone else that tried to spoil the young sophomore's coming out party.

"It's tough you know," said the 20 year old, Hillman. "You get out there, and are able to make something out of nothing. Then you get this incredible high while you cross into the end zone, only to have it all taken back by one call."

One call? Try 4...

Ronnie Hillman returned 2 punts, 1 kick off, and broke a 62 yard touchdown from scrimmage, only to have them all called back on 3 holding calls and a clipping call. Yet he takes it in stride:

"It is what it is," chimed in Hillman. "I'm just glad we were able to distance ourselves in the end."

Distance themselves they did. The second half was a testament to the pure determination of Ronnie Hillman to not be discouraged. As he came storming out on the Aztecs first drive of the half with an 81 yard run from scrimmage, his 1st of his 3 TDs/

"Coach [Heath] just told me at halftime to not worry about it," Ronnie told reporters. "He said, eventually, you'll get yours."

And get his he did...

But Travis Heath was not as happy with the result as a first time head coach would be expected to be following a rout.

"The guys played well there in the second half," Coach Travis Heath told reporters. "But this schedule doesn't get any easier, and teams like TCU, Michigan, and Boise State won't let you stay in a game that you don't deserve to be in, and frankly, we didn't deserve to be in this game considering how we played in the first half."

Maybe he has a point. The Aztecs only converted 3-7 3rd down conversions for 42%, committed 3 turnovers, and combined for 11 penalties for 113 yards, 9 of such being holding calls.

"We have to do a better job of creating space and being physical," Heath explained. "That many calls against us for something like that is just unacceptable We're lucky we got Ron Ron back their in the backfield with Lindy (Ryan Lindley). But being "good" isn't enough, especially if you can't play well enough to put someone away."

Perhaps, but for now, a win is a win, and as long as #13 is coming out strong from the backfield, nothing is ever too much.

Run, Ronnie, Run....
