Now I raise this question because at this very second I am contemplating if I need to make the change in my madden defense and do it. I have honestly been racking my brain for the last week or so thinking about this.

I know for a fact that a lot of NFL teams in nickel situations will move their best Cornerback into the nickel .

Now what I have done here is just presented all the reasons why I think that everybody should at least contemplate making that move.

Just look what type of receiver types play in the slot

This a is quick rundown of the receiver types that play in the slot.

Quick, Shifty Guys

These type of guys get in and out of their routes very quickly. Once they get the ball in their hands they can and will be a problem in the open field

These players are the Wes Welker types

Tall, Intermediate/Deep Threats

These players are guys who can control the middle of the field. They CAN run a couple of routes well but they specialize in dominating the seams. These guys put extreme pressure on zone defenses in the seam deep. These guys also put pressure on the nickelback to cover them in man coverage.

A Julio Jones/ if a person were to put Megatron here it would fit this mold

Strong, Possession Guys

These guys may not be as top speed heavy as the two above categories but they can run some good routes. But the thing that makes these guys go is the ability to make the key catches and control the middle of the field.

If you are familure with the “old” madden games Brian Finneran fits this mold. Anquan Boldin also is a great example of this type of player

Tight Ends

Tight End are extremely difficult to defend in the slot (well anywhere really lol). They most definitely do not have the speed as the other guys unles you are talking about Vernon Davis. But these guys do have hands, they do have some good route running ability. And most importantly they have the size and leverage

Vernon Davis, Tony Gonzalez , Jason Witten, Rob Gronkowski, etc are the key tight ends to play the slot

With these different dynamics of players who play in the slot it is very important to lock these guys down.
