Charlie Weis Officially out as Kansas Head Coach

January 22, 2013

Weis spent only one season as the Kansas Head Coach before being fired by the team.

Lawrence, Kansas -- The Charlie Weis "era" officially came to an end today, according to a spokesperson for the University of Kansas. In his only season as the head man for the Jayhawks, Weis posted a record of 1-11, with the team's only win coming against South Dakota State in the season opener. Weis was brought in to turn around a program that hasn't won a conference game since the 2010 season and hasn't gone to a bowl game since the 2008 Insight Bowl, but the team's abysmal performance this past season, plus a recruiting class that fell short of expectations, has caused the university to go in another direction.

"Charlie [Weis] is a great man and we wish him all the best wherever he may end up, but the university has decided to explore different options for the football coach for the 2013 season. We plan to begin this search immediately and are looking forward to bringing in someone to get this program back on the right track," said University of Kansas Athletic Director, Sheahon Zenger, following the news that Weis wouldn't be returning for the 2013 season.

The university has kept dark who their current coaching targets are, but speculation is that the team could be attempting to bring a former coach out of retirement. Only time will tell where this leads.
