After his outburst and 5 game in-house suspension, Kelly Johnson has been traded to the Reds along with 1B Scott Van Slyke. The Mariners are believed to have received 2B Jason Donald, 1B Mat Gamel, and SP prospect Robert Stephenson.
Reds Get:
2B - Kelly Johnson
1B - Scott Van Slyke
Mariners Get:
2B - Jason Donald
1B - Mat Gamel
SP - Robert Stephenson
Manager Eric Wedge commented on this story saying, "A guy that is going to attack teammates and coaches is not the type of guy we want on this team. We want to keep this clubhouse as close as possible and we want our team to have great chemistry. It was obvious that keeping Johnson around was not a possibility."
Jason Donald will be competing with Gordon Beckham for the everyday position at 2nd base.
