Mariners sign 4 veteran free agents
In a huge day for Mariners fans the team went out and signed not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 former all-stars. They signed Jose Contreras, Melvin Mora, Omar Vizquel, and Jim Thome all to 1-year deals. Jose Contreras will be placed in the middle relief position while Thome will DH everyday and Melvin Mora will be the regular at 3B. Vizquel will play a utility role off of the bench, able to fill in almost anywhere when someone needs a day off. Martin Prado has also been shifted to 2B to solve the inconsistency at 2B and Bogusevic will take his place in right field.
Pedro Alvarez, Gordon Beckham, Leonys Martin, and Jared Burton were all sent down to Triple-A
Manager Eric Wedge had this to say of the signing, "I am very pleased with the 4 veterans that we acquired today. All of these players are still capable of going out there and improving the team that we had. I am much more confident in our teams chances of making the postseason after these moves."

Mariners fall in home opener
Even a sold out crowd on "Free Ticket Night" wasn't enough to will the Mariners to victory tonight. They struggled to get anything going offensively as their only runs came on a solo shot by the hot Chris Iannetta in the 3rd and an RBI triple by rookie Leonys Martin in the 8th. Apart from the 1st and 5th innings, Matt Harrison had a great outing. Allowing 4 runs over 7 innings but he looked very sharp on the mound. The main issue came from not getting his strikeout pitches working tonight, only K'ing 1 batter through 7. Zimmerman, however, looked fantastic through his entire start, allowing just that 3rd inning homerun through his 7 innings.
The Mariners will look to rebound tomorrow night as Fausto Carmona takes the mound against Johan Santana; who the Mariners were able to chase out of the game in just 5 innings, scoring 4 runs on en route to a 15-1 pounding in their last meeting.
Troy Tulowitzki is now 5-33 with a .152 avg and only 2 RBI's in these first 8 games and he will need to turn it around if this club wants to continue winning games.
B.J. Upton has been red hot, hitting .452/.528/.742 with a homer and 4 RBI's.

Mariners split series 2-2
(Simmed games 3,4)
The story of this series was pitching, no suprise for the team currently 4th in ERA in the league. In game 3 the Mariners pitching staff only allowed 3 runs but the offense wasn't there as they could only muster 1 run in the loss.
In game 4 the Mariners were able to hold off the Rangers in a 14 inning thriller, 3-2.
Manager Eric Wedge was asked how he felt about his teams early performance, replying "We are off to a fantastic start to this season and I hope this early success will translate into long-term results. Right now we're 2nd in runs scored and 4th in ERA so when you have numbers like that, you're going to win plenty of ballgames."

Mariners falter for the first time in 2012
The Mariners were stopped a game short of a 5-game winning streak today by the Texas Rangers. The pitching, once again, was excellent but it was their inability to get runners across that cost them the game as they could only muster up 1 run on 8 hits. Blackburn got the loss going 6 innings allowing 2 runs but he does get a quality start for his outing. Brian Bogusevic was the only player on the Mariners to show any signs of life at the plate, going 4-4 with the only RBI on the team.
Leonys Martin, who was called up today after Kosuke Fukudome was sent down, went 0-4 in his MLB debut. Jason Donald also struggled in his Mariners debut, going 0-2 with a walk.
The Mariners will look to rebound in game 3 of this 4 game series tomorrow.

Kelly Johnson dealt to the Reds!
After his outburst and 5 game in-house suspension, Kelly Johnson has been traded to the Reds along with 1B Scott Van Slyke. The Mariners are believed to have received 2B Jason Donald, 1B Mat Gamel, and SP prospect Robert Stephenson.
Reds Get:
2B - Kelly Johnson
1B - Scott Van Slyke
Mariners Get:
2B - Jason Donald
1B - Mat Gamel
SP - Robert Stephenson
Manager Eric Wedge commented on this story saying, "A guy that is going to attack teammates and coaches is not the type of guy we want on this team. We want to keep this clubhouse as close as possible and we want our team to have great chemistry. It was obvious that keeping Johnson around was not a possibility."
Jason Donald will be competing with Gordon Beckham for the everyday position at 2nd base.

Kelly Johnson, the Mariners 2nd basemen, pictured above, apparently went on a tirade after the Mariners extra inning win against the Rangers. Sources say Johnson began yelling at teammates and coaches after his performance was criticized. One teammate said that he told hitting coach Chris Chambliss, who was giving him some tips, to "Shut the **** up, and leave him alone." Johnson went 1-5 in the game, seeing his average fall to .187 through the first 4 games.
We were unable to contact GM Eric Wedge about this incident.

Mariners steal first game from Rangers
Well the team that we saw yesterday is gone but the Mariners pitching staff continues to shine. The Mariners only scored twice in the first 9 innings and took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th. Joakim Soria came in and the game seemed all but over until J.D Drew drove one over the right field wall. The bullpen was then able to hold the Rangers off in extras until the Mariners were able to get one more run in the top of the 11th. Jeremy Affeldt then came on and shut the door, earning his first save of the season.
When asked of his teams efforts, manager Eric Wedge said, "I'm very proud of these boys today, they came into a tough ballpark, in Arlington, and were able to persevere into extra's and come away with a win. If our bullpen keeps this up the entire year, I can't see us losing many games."

Bats come out as Mariners complete sweep of A's!
Everything that could go right today, went right, as the Mariners were able to push across 15 runs on 15 hits. Martin Prado earned player of the game as he went 4-5 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI's with a big 2-run homer in the first to get the M's rolling. Matt Harrison was masterful in his first start as he went 7 strong, only allowing 1 ER on 5 hits, striking out 8.
When asked about his start he said, "You know, it's really easy to go pitch a great game when your team is putting up runs for you. Having that lead really gives you a lot of confidence to just throw your pitches, I can't thank my guys enough for giving me the run support today."
The Mariners are looking to be in top form to start this season and will now be traveling to Texas to play the Rangers in Arlington. Game 1 will see Fausto Carmona go against Zach Britton, stay tuned for more.

This was another one that I had simmed and yet again in this one pitching was the key as it took till the 11th for the Mariners to win. Tulowitzki had a good game scoring twice on 3 hits and B.J. Upton did equally as well going 4-6 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Ubaldo Jimenez was able to get a quality start in his first outing of the season, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits through 7 innings. The Mariners will now look to sweep the A's next game!

The Mariners begin the season with a win! This game did not see much offense with the lone blow being a 2 run homer from Freddie Freeman but the bullpen was able to hold off the A's in the final 3 innings to seal the victory.

I think that this team could definitely have plenty of success. We have a strong rotation, solid end of the bullpen, and a lot of good contact hitters so I think this team could potentially be playoff bound year one.
Breaking News, MLB announces league-wide draft!
Commissioner Bud Selig: "After ratings continually lowering over the past 5 years, myself and my advisors believe that it is in the MLB's best interest to conduct a draft containing a pool of all current MLB players and free agents. All current players will be released from their contracts and be available for selection. There will be a lottery to decide the drafting order. This draft will occur on January 31st as to allow the restructured teams enough time to prepare for the 2012 season. Thank you for your time."
Hey guys, I wanted to do a franchise on here but I mostly do fantasy drafts so I hope this is something that people can actually get behind. I already did the draft and simulated my first two games and played two more so I will have updates for those two that I played right away. I'm playing on all-star with timing hitting and pulse pitching with TNK's realism sliders.
I will now do an update containing the roster.
