Raiders fire Cable.
Posted on January 3, 2011 at 11:35 PM.
Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy? I know the Raiders aren't in the playoffs but they finished up 8-8 and played great against a Chiefs team that obviously wasn't clicking on Sunday. The Raiders to me are one of those franchises that should be on top. I myself love all 32 but even though I say that I just hate to see the Raiders pretty much mean nothing in the landscape of the NFL.

If the team wasn't improving I would be on board with the idea. I think they are on the way up. They were 6-0 within their division and ended with .500 record. Granted not good enough for a division title or a playoff berth but much better than what we've seen in recent history. I just hate when teams overreact. It seems to me they are improving and I think it would be a shame to act too soon. If they come out of the gates slow in 2011 and end with a poor record let's say like 4-12 then maybe make a move. I just wonder what Al Davis is thinking sometimes.

Am I overreacting by supporting Cable? Like to hear your thoughts and opinions.

cable brings stability to a team and organization that has lacked it for almost half a decade or whatever

sure the chiefs played well and sure the chargers played with the media by playing a must-win game in what seemed to be a weekly endeavor but even at an 8-8 finish for the raiders...they were in fact the AFC West champions in terms of wins over their divisional rivals...

Your biggest challenge will be figuring out "what Al Davis is thinking". I don't think he knows what he's thinking half the time. As long as Al Davis is controlling the Raiders, they will not rise again.

as a raider fan this sux...they pretty much blew out most of the division rivals played hard but came up short in a few games and now fire the head coach...same deal when gruden was there they became great then he trade him to the team that handed them there @sses in that sb.just like bfindeisen said "they will not rise again" until al has pasted away which by me is a damed shame

You can scratch that "considering" part now.

It was the offensive coordinator who made them better. Cable is terrible. He needs to go.

Al Davis has lost all football credentials OTHER than his ability to spot cornerback talent. That's all he's left with. He should not be making any other decisisions, as he's completely incapable of managing a team in the modern NFL.

Yeah Hue Jackson made them better Cable did alright, but to the people who say Cable is so good why did our offensive line suck so bad. People keep blaming Al Davis, he wanted Jason Campbell the qb Cable kept fight for Bruce, look at the games we lost. Look at Campbell stats and Bruce, look at how many drives Campbell made inside the 20 yard line, our offensive used to always stall. It's also a lot of inside information people don't know about. Like Jackson and Cable getting into it, which one would you rather keep. Plus its not like Cable had a one year option he had a two year. Al wasn't going to keep Cable for two more years just to be an offensive line coach. Al Davis like for his head coaches to call plays. Plus Hue Jackson ran the show anyway. Al Davis never lets his coordinators or assistants do interviews, only the head coach, but Hue Jackson was the first one., he talks as though he is running the team, read his old interviews.

I'm a little confused. I kinda liked Cable and thought he brought stability to a position that is now becoming a Joke.. nobody good wants to coach us because AL is always srewing something up.. I know he does not do everything, but come on man. we went 8-8, and if the cheifs did not have 10 wins we would be in.

The Raiders will never go anywhere as long as Al Davis is running the show. Sorry, but that is just the truth. When you have someone that irrational as the owner of your team, stability and success will always be out of reach.

I don't agree with the move regarding firing Cable, but it turned out that Al Davis was right about Lane Kiffin. Time will tell.
