How I'd Change it: Toronto Raptors

In 1995 the Toronto Raptors played their first game in the National Basketball Association. It has now been about 18 years since the Raptors were founded. But do we as NBA fan really like the name? Without a doubt I'm not the biggest fan of the name or the colors. So I'm here to say least get rid of the horrible name and while we're at it the colors as well. Anybody can say let's do away with the Raptors name and be done with the conversation. But, I'm here to provide alternatives to both the name and the colors. So let's first begin with the nickname.

To me personally the name Raptors has been associated with failure and losing so I think it's time for a change. In 1946-1947 Canada had a basketball team located in Toronto and the name of that team was the Toronto Huskies. Now out of all the team names I've thought of I think I like Huskies the best, mainly because it fits with Toronto. Basically when you think of Toronto you think of cold, chilling winds and snow and environment where you might find Huskies. So I definitely liked the nickname Huskies. Another possible idea was Wolves. However Minnesota currently owns the name Timberwolves which means another wolf name would just be a duplicate. Honestly the only other nickname I could come up with was the name predators. Out of the names Huskies, Wolves, Predators, and Raptors I must say the best has to be the Huskies.

Now I must say whether they keep the name Raptors or change to the obviously better name Huskies one thing must change, the colors. For me I'm not a big fan of the red and black color schemes for any types of uniforms. Just look at the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils uniforms or what about the NFL's Atlanta Falcons or NCAA's Texas Tech uniforms. I think we can all say they're horrendous. But don't worry I have a plan for the colors of the Toronto basketball team. Toronto should take a note from all the Pittsburgh professional teams. Pittsburgh only uses three colors yellow/gold, black, and white which has become the identity for the city of Pittsburgh. Now I'm not saying Toronto should change their colors to yellow, black, and white but I will say change the colors to your other professional teams like the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. So basically go blue and lots of it. Build an identity that starts with colors and relatable team names then stick to it. Without a doubt I think more people will enjoy Toronto and the sports city a bit more.
