Herbstreit Classic
Posted on May 19, 2011 at 07:11 PM.
It's NEVER too early to start talkin' high school football. With that, the Herbstreit Classic have already announced several of the Ohio and out-of-state teams that will be participating, most notably Glenville, who last year found itself in the middle of controversy after a questionable call at the end of the game gave Glenville a 26-23 victory over Dwyer, FL on ESPN. Glenville was thought of at the time as the best team in Ohio, but fell in the second round of the playoffs last year to the eventual state champions of St. Edward. The perennial powerhouse that is the Tarblooders look to leave a better impression this year against Camden County from Georgia down at Columbus Stadium this year.

Watching high school football really has changed me, it has inspired me to become a journalist and follow the teams and events that I love so much. I watched my Maple Heights Mustangs bring home their first ever football championship in the most entertaining football game I've ever seen. The heart and soul that goes into every game is incredible, comparable to a college game. These are kids with a genuine love of football and a sense of pride that each game they play is a chance to defend the town's integrity and honor on the gridiron. I believe that Ohio isn't that far behind of the big 3 of high school football states (Florida, Texas and California) and the Herbstreit classic showcases that every year. Ohio has one of the deepest set of teams there are in the nation, spanning across all 6 of the divisions and it only gets more competitive every year. This year will be no different.
