2017 Draft Day
Posted on January 24, 2012 at 04:44 PM.
Rumors have been swirling all day that the Hawks, coming off of three straight trips to the Stanley Cup finals are going to be major players today. From what we are hearing they want to get back into the top of the draft, and are willing to part with some key pieces to their recent success. Stay tuned...

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE

Blackhawks TV is reporting the Goalie Corey Crawford, backstop for the Hawks for two Stanley Cups, and four trips to the Finals in the last five years has been traded. Details to follow......

It's official, Corey Crawford has been traded....

Acquire
G - Corey Crawford
2017 - 1st Round Pick

Acquire
2017 - 1st Round Pick (6th Overall)
2017 - 2nd Round Pick
2019 - 3rd Round Pick

The Minnesota Wild fill a huge need by adding Crawford, as they were relying on burnt out prospects and stop gap options for the last couple of years. The Hawks side of things is puzzling, unless they draft a goalie (two goalies in the Top 5), because there are no solid # 1 UFA's on the market this off season. The Hawks could also look into the trade market to see if there is a solid #1 out there worth their time, but many teams aren't thrilled with giving up a true #1. Definitely an interesting story to follow this off season.....

Let the Draft Begin...

The Chicago Blackhawks are on the clock with the 6th overall pick acquired from Minnesota...

Stan Bowman.... "The Chicago Blackhawks are proud to select from the United States U-20 league, Nicholas Niedermayer..."

Miss-spelled on purpose so it would fit, haha, trust me!

Not going to lie, this draft was tough, meaning there really wasn't too much depth at all. I will do a pretty nice prospect write up, I know SEB will appreciate that .... Lot's of work to do this off season, here is my take on the Crawford deal...

Had to be done in my eyes, he was great for us, maybe a little inconsistent but what goalie isn't? Crawford was up at the end of next season, meaning he would have to be dealt during the year, and I really didn't want to do that to A, our team, or B, to Crawford. Having a goalie playing all season while being on the block is not a good thing. Toews is up at the end of next season and we would like him to get a long term deal keeping him here for the rest of his career, and I didn't want to have to choose between the two of them. Now the issue, is Timo Niemi ready for the #1 job at an 84 overall?? I can't say yes to that at this point, we have a lot of work to do to make this team what we think it can be, thanks for following.
