Morin Stikes Twice, Wins it in OT
Posted on December 1, 2011 at 05:49 PM.
It;s funny how games, or teams for that matter in the playoffs can adjust their game to their opponent like the flip of a switch, or maybe it's just luck. The Wild, seeing that they were able to play with the Hawks in the OT periods in game one came out in game two trying to push the pace. What did the Hawks do? The opposite, played the game the Wild usually play and sat back waiting for a break. They got one, Beach fed Bolland with a nifty pass that sprung Bolland all in all alone against Backstrom and he made no mistake, burying it for a 1-0 lead. Shortly after the Hawks were sent to the power play with a huge chance to put a death grip on game two based on how Crawford has been playing. Yet, the power play failed once again, and the Hawks took a penalty near the end of their own power play. Then the Hawks got a break, Jeremy Morin, just trying to get the puck on net so he could get off the ice found himself getting credit for a short handed goal as the puck somehow made it thru Backstrom. We head to the second period, the Hawks have a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks showed some of the talent that have many thinking they can make it all the way to the finals this year during a couple minute long offensive zone time shifts. However, they also displayed what some think might be their downfall, late period goals. After another solid period, by the team and Crawford, the Wild were finally able to dent the net and the scoresheet. With 7 seconds left in the period Zidlicky one timed a shot from the point and the puck knuckled right over Crawfords shoulder. Hopefully this goal doesn't throw Crawford off of his game, as some could consider it soft, but after the run Crawford has had I would lean toward him bouncing back just fine. We head to the third period with the Hawks holding a 1-0 lead.

Boy, these two teams are just meant to bang heads all game long, not one team can can't a clear advantage, at least not yet. Six minutes into the third period Cal Clutterbuck found some open space in the high slot and ripped a one timer over a screened Crawford to tie the game at two. Once again the Hawks headed to the power play with about nine minutes left, and again had plenty of chance but Backstrom was up to the task, as he has been all series, except for Morin's shot in the first. The Hawks were saved with about 4 minutes left as Latendresse blew a slap shot past Crawford shot side and the puck rang off the post, so we head to OT, again, tied at 2....

Luck strikes again for the Hawks, maybe they are a team of destiny. Early in the third period Jagr deflected a shot from the point that beat Crawford and hit BOTH posts. Shortly after that the Hawks showed why they are so dangerous. Every time the Bolland line hit the ice the Hawks threatened to score. After a good 25 second shift in the offensive zone Simmonds stole the puck along the end boards, fed the puck to Bolland behind the net, and as he walked out from behind the net Morin cut to the net. Bolland found him and Morin buried a backhander past Backstrom for the Victory! We head to Minnesota with the Hawks holding a 2-0 series lead.
