GM Stan Bowman, "it's been a hectic day for all of us, so we will run down each deal here and give you an idea of what we were thinking with these deals, we are very pleased with the moves we made today, we feel the team not only got better this year for a cup run but put ourselves in a position to be a threat in the offseason with the draft as well."
Chicago Blackhawks Announce Deal:
Acquire
2012 - 1st Round Draft Pick
Acquire
2012 - 2nd Round Draft Pick
LW - Bryan Bickell
Analysis - Solid move for the Hawks as their 2nd round draft pick will put them near the beginning of the third round so now they can have multiple picks in the 1st round, and an early pick then first anticipated now that they have Montreal's pick. Bryan Bickell has all sorts of promise but he was in Coach Q's dog house. He is not making any money at all so it's a nice addition for a Montreal team headed to the playoffs.
Chicago Blackhawks Announce Second Deal:
Acquire
2012 - 2nd Round Draft Pick
Acquire
LW - Andrew Brunette
Analysis: Bringing Brunette in to help the PP unit and skate top 6 minutes made sense in the off season, but as the season progressed it was obvious that his lack of speed was keeping the top two lines down, and he was not signed to play bottom 6 minutes. In return the Hawks get the 2nd round pick they lost in the deal with Montreal and improve their positioning in the 2nd round as they will finish with a better record than Carolina.Chicago Blackhawks Announce MAJOR Deal:
GM Stan Bowman - Boston came to us with this deal, we did not go to them looking for it. The more we went back and forth on it the more it made sense to pull the trigger."
Acquire
LW - Milan Lucic
Acquire
2012 - 1st Round Draft Pick
G - Ray Emery
LW - Rusty Olesz
RW - Jamal Mayers
Analysis: Wow, totally unexpected move from the Hawks. For the whole season the Hawks have lacked a true # 1 LW to play with Toews and Kane. They have landed their man in Lucic, and it gives them some more muscle, and some more help on the PP, and PK. Clearly something is up in Boston, as they take on an aging goaltender, and role players in Mayers and Olesz. The Hawks were looking to get Olesz off the team and more importantly off the books, as he was making close to $4 million, and clearly not worth that with three more years left. Hard to understand this move from Boston's side of things, they do land a late first rounder, but still curious. As far as Emery goes, the Hawks will call on Alexander Salak to fill in as Crawfords backup for the rest of the year, in other words, it's Crawfords team from here on out.
Exhausted folks, going to try and post new lines here before I call it a night. Have to see the surgeon's nurse in the morning.
