Brunette Returns to Lineup Just in Time to Pot Winner
Posted on November 12, 2011 at 12:23 AM.
A slow first period is an understatement. The Hawks played the night before and given the circumstances of their come from behind victory I'm sure no one could blame them for coming out slow. Not sure what the Av's excuse was as they could only muster 3 shots against Emery, none of which were high quality chances. The Hawks were only able to get 6 shots on goal which made for an exciting game of how many players can we fit into the neutral zone at once, 10 is the answer. Scoreless headed to the second.

Coach Q must have got thru to the boys in between periods as they came out with some noticeable jump. Patrick Kane was able to weave thru some traffic and finish off a beauty from Sharp and Toews at the 1:29 mark of the first period to put the Hawks in front. A short three and a half minutes later Michael Frolik was the beneficiary off a great end to end rush by Marian Hossa who slid a feed into the slot right on the stick of Frolik for an easy tap in and a 2-0 lead early in the second. The Av's would not pack it in however as they stuck to their game and started generating chances from the point as well as down low. A reward coming at 12:48 of the second period when Paul Stastny one timed a shot low thru Emery's five hole to cut the deficit to 1. Replay's showed the puck going off Lepisto's stick but Stastny was given credit for the marker. Exactly four minutes later David Jones tied it up on another slot breakdown by the Hawks D leaving Jones all alone in front, nothing Emery could do, we head to the third tied at 2.

Sometimes coach knows best, not always, but sometimes. Apparently this was one of the times where he did know best. Andrew Brunette who has been unhappy of late, and a healthy scratch the last 6 games was re inserted into the lineup and made sure people noticed. He received a slick pass from Mayers and made a beauty of move going forehand backhand and over Varlamov at 17:50 of the third period to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead which would prove to be the difference, solid victory for the Hawks which is their third straight, and 5th out of 6 games.
