Crawford Makes Bolland's Tally Hold Up
Posted on November 11, 2011 at 05:40 PM.
Great jump from the Hawks right from the opening face-off tonight. Devyn Dubnyk has been the answer for the Oilers keeping this game scoreless. The Hawks are outshooting the Oilers 13-5 thru the first 20 thanks to an outstanding power play by the Hawks that did everything but score. The third and fourth lines have been particularly impressive for the Hawks as it seems that Kruger is improving every game, and is such a smart two way player that he is now trusting himself to go on the offensive. He logged an impressive 5:09 in the first period creating a couple of scoring chances 5 on 5. We head to the second period scoreless, barely. With 5 seconds left, Toews won a faceoff back to Seabrook who unloaded a shot from the point that trickled thru the pads of Dubnyk. Kane was right there to poke it in, just after the green light went off signifying the end of the period.

Just as one power play sparked the Hawks momentum in the first the same could be said for the Edmonton power play in the second. The Oilers had a large amount of zone time during their power play early in the second period but were unable to solve Crawford as he made two outstanding saves. The Oilers seemed to build off of that power play as the carried the play for the majority of the period before the Rat made a difference. The Hawks had a fantastic 30+ second shift in the Edmonton zone culminating with Bollans deflecting a Montador shot from the point past Dubnyk to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead and that is where we stand headed to the third period.

Goaltenders put on a show in this one. The third period was wide open, but neither goaltender would crack. The whole period was played 5 on 5 and the Hawks and Oilers went back and forth each getting 12 shots for the period. Crawford was outstanding, while his team played well enough to win this game he definitely was the difference. He made several big stops in the latter half of the third period, a solid victory for the Hawks as they now travel to Philadelphia which is always a difficult place to play.
