Hawks Build Big Lead Then Let it Slip Away in SO
Posted on November 11, 2011 at 01:17 AM.
Message received, loud and clear! The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders sending the Canadiens scrambling all period long. Marcus Kruger opened the scoring by blasting a slapper short side past Budaj as the UC crowd erupted. The Hawks took that momentum and surged forward forcing the Habs into penalty after penalty because they were frustrated and couldn't keep up. In all the Habs took three unanswered penalties, two of which the Hawks scored on. Stalberg tallied the first PP goal, and then less than a minute later Toews scored another one, the Hawks are flying but there is a long way to go.

As mentioned early, a long way to go. The Habs came of flying all over, including into Emery twice, which led to Emery getting into a fight and the game getting very chippy. Shortly after the fight the Habs struck, scoring twice within two minutes to make it a one goal game just like that. The Hawks were outshot 13-3 in the period, thus leaving all the momentum on the side of the Habs as we enter the third period with the Hawks hanging on to a one goal lead.

When things are going bad, things are going bad. With less then five minutes left in the third period Scott Gomez was the recipient of an amazing pass from Kostitsyn as he kicked the puck to the slot and Gomez had an wide open net to pot the tying goal. The Hawks have blown a 3 goal lead and head to overtime on the power play as Carcillo was boarded near the end of regulation. It looked like a major but a minor was all that was given out. The Hawks came out flying in the 3rd and carried the play throughout, unfortunately Peter Budaj stood on his head. The Hawks outshot the Habs 16-7 in the third and 33-29 for the game so far. If the Hawks can manage to get two points the blown lead will be forgotten and they can focus on the positives from this one. To overtime we go tied at 3.

The Hawks carried the play in overtime but once again Peter Budaj was too much. Each team has earned a point as we head to the skills competition.

Horrible loss, Hawks will take the point, but blowing a 3 goal lead on home ice is inexcusable. This back to back against the Pens and Habs were huge and the Hawks only got 1 point out of 4, not a happy bunch right now.

SORRY NO PICS OR VIDS FOR THIS GAME, EA SERVERS WERE DOWN
