Typical St. Louis Blues hockey, not a lot of room out there tonight. Hawks won a key offensive zone draw and worked hard to open a shot for the point from Seabrook which Kane was able to get a stick on, the puck trickled thru Halak's pads to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead late in the period. Crawford has been solid but hasn't been tested too often, most of the opportunities were from the outside and the defense did a good job limiting the second and third chances. Bolland's line has been limited as the Blues have keyed on it, the 3rd and 4th line of the Hawks has been able to gain some zone time but the Hawks have not established any offensive flow yet.
Back to back nights are starting to show. The Hawks were sluggish to start the second stanza and paid for it. The Blue were able to tie it up early on the power play as Montador's stick broke thus leaving the Blues with a 5 on 3 which they capatalized on. The Hawks regained control or at least leveled the playing field mid way thru the 2nd period thanks to a few power plays but were unable to find the net on either, including a breakaway from Kane that rang of the post. The real back breaker was with less then 10 seconds left Crawford bobbled a dump in that went right to Arnott who tapped it into an empty net with 4 seconds left in the period giving the Blues a late 2-1 lead. The Blues hold the edge in shots 25-13 through two periods, Hawks need to dig deep to find a way to get a point tonight.
Through some dogged work the Hawks were able to find the equalizer as a horrible change by the Blues led to Michael Frolik streaking down the end boards all alone, he wound up and blew a slapper thru Halak. Halak wanted that one back as he got a big piece of it, but the game was once again all square at 2 with 14 minutes left. The Hawks continued to push, playing their best period of the game, and finally got a result they were looking for as Michael Frolik found Brunette cutting through the slot who was able to unload a wrister past Halak shot side to give the Hawks a leade with 6:30 left in the game. The Blues pushed back, cycling the Hawks zone two shifts in a row, then they got what they were looking for, a bad turnover to Patrik Berglund who's wrist shot bounced off of Hjalmarsson and past Crawford to tie the game at 3 with four minutes remaining, and that's how it stays as we head to overtime.
Hawks get a huge break in OT as Backes is called for checking from behind and the Hawks go to the PP for the remaining two minutes of OT. But, the # 1 unit in the league could not come thru as Halak stood tall, but the Hawks were sloppy, looking for the pretty play instead of getting pucks and traffic to the net, to the SO we go....
Corey Crawford stood tall in the SO, and Marian Hossa left no doubt that the Hawks were walking out of Scott Trade with two big points. Hawks Win! That's three straight wins for the Hawks as they get a day off before heading home to face the Coyotes to cap off three games in four nights. Expect Ray Emery to get the call in net.
Special Note: I am going to try and hook up my Hauppagge to get highlights for the games, stay tuned.
