BERKELEY - The Golden Bears caught the breaks they needed to in a rematch against No.22 UCLA to win the 2016 Pac-12 Championship 35-28.

The conference championship is No. 8 California's first since winning a share of the title in 2006 and it's the Golden Bears first outright title since winning the Pacific Coast Conference in 1958.

This is Cal's first outright conference title in 58 years.

Senior quarterback Davis Webb led the way by completing 34 of 42 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns and added another score and 32 yards on nine carries.

However, Webb paid a major price for his one interception, which was returned 90 yards for a touchdown by Randall Goforth.

Goforth has picked off Webb at crucial times in both match-ups this season.

Khalfani Muhammad carried 18 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns and caught seven passes for 20 more yards. Kanawai Noa led all receivers with seven catches for 115 yards, but Vic Wharton got in the end zone twice on five catches for 48 yards.

Josh Rosen completed 21 of 31 passes for 221 yards and one touchdown for the Bruins and Soso Jamabo rushed 19 times for 68 yards and a score and added 39 yards and another touchdown on the ground on six carries.

Cal struck first on a 7-yard quarterback keeper by Webb before UCLA responded with a field goal.

Webb's touchdown run put Cal on the board first.

On the Golden Bears next drive, Bruin cornerback Goforth returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown to take the lead 10-7.

A few minutes before halftime, Wharton caught his first touchdown on a 2-yard pass from Webb to put Cal up 14-10 at the break.

The Golden Bears received after the break and Webb put together another drive and found Wharton again on an 8-yard touchdown on what was the play of the game.

The freak-play for a touchdown took the wind out of UCLA's sails.

Bruin cornerback Marcus Rios deflected the pass, but on its way to the ground it bounced off of his knee and right into Wharton's hands for a Golden Bear touchdown to extend the lead 21-10.

On UCLA's next drive, Fairbairn hit his second field goal of the day to close the lead to 21-13, but Muhammad would score on Cal's next drive to take a 28-13 lead into the fourth quarter.

Jamabo scored his first touchdown early in the fourth quarter and a successful two-point conversion put the Bruins within one score, 28-21.

Muhammad responded with a touchdown run of his own to re-widen the gap to 14, 35-21 with under three minutes left in the game.

Jim Mora got Crying Jordan'd following the loss.

Jamabo would find the end zone again for UCLA (9-4, 6-4) to pull within seven, but there simply wasn't enough time left in the game for the Bruins to pull it out.

With the win, Cal (12-1, 9-1) clinches a berth in the Rose Bowl.

The Golden Bears got some major news Saturday as Fremont (Calif.) five-star shooting guard Jimmy Bookout committed and signed with Cal on the final day of the early signing period.

"They've been recruiting me for awhile," Bookout told TheBearsDen.com. "They had a really good season last year and I think they're going to surprise some people for the rest of this year."

The 6-foot-5, 199-pounder is ranked as the No. 3 shooting guard in the nation, the No. 2 player in California and the No. 13 player overall by the 247Composite.

Bookout chose Cal over offers from USC, UCLA, Fresno State and several others.

"I had been back and forth between Cal and UCLA for about a month, but I think with Cal, I can be the missing piece," Bookout said. "Most of their best players will be back next year and with Jordan Mathews graduating after this year, I can come right in and fill his spot."

As a junior, Bookout averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for Fremont. He also connected on 42 percent of 3-point attempts.

KENT (OH) - Derek Jackson scored 18 points to lead Kent State to a dominant 81-49 win against California on Friday.

Kris Brewer added 15 points and seven assists, Devareaux Manley scored 10 points and Khaliq Spicer grabbed 12 rebounds for the Golden Flashes.

Jackson led all scorers with 18 points.

No player from Cal had double figures in any category.

The Golden Bears got into early foul trouble as Ivan Rabb and Jabari Bird each picked up two fouls in the first 2:30 of the game.

Kent State built a 10-point lead and lead 30-20 with 2:58 left in the first half, but Cal would go on a 6-0 run to cut it to 30-26.

Charlie Moore hit two 3-pointers to close out the half for the Golden Bears to cut the lead to one, 33-32.

After the break, the Golden Flashes went on a 17-0 run to lead 50-32 before the Bears got on the board.

Cal couldn't get a bucket to fall and shot 19-of-55 from the field as a team in what was a very poor performance offensively.

Kent State outscored Cal 48-17 in the second half to put the game away.

BERKELEY - Ivan Rabb and Kameron Rooks combined for 48 points to lead California to a 84-62 thumping of Hampton on Friday.

Rabb finished with his first triple-double of the season with 26 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists and Rooks added a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Mathews also had 16 for the Golden Bears.

Rabb forces his way to the basket through a crowd of Pirates.

Brian Darden led the Pirates with 20 points and Deron Powers added a double-double by way of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Cal got out to a small early lead in the opening minutes and built it to double digits on a Rooks three-point play as he went in for a dunk and made the ensuing free throw to extend the lead 29-19 with 4:51 left in the half.

Rooks scored 22 points for Cal, including six free throws.

That was also the beginning of a 15-2 run that put the Golden Bears up by 20 after Rabb made a pair of free throws to lead 41-21 with 2:18 left in the half.

Hampton (3-6) simply wasn't equipped to recover from that big of a deficit and only managed to close to 15 midway through the second half as Cal (7-4) would go on to win its third straight.

The Golden Bears got out to an early 14-7 lead in the first three minutes of the game and built it from there. The only time Cal trailed all game was 2-0 after East Carolina made the opening bucket.

Jabari Bird added 10 points for the Golden Bears and Ivan Rabb was shy of a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.

Cal built the lead to 42-27 after one half and lead by as many as 19 early in the second half, but the Pirates would fight back and pull within six, 59-53 with 5:13 left in the game.

BERKELEY - California shot 60 percent as a team from three-point range to put away Arizona State 85-73 at home in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

Jabari Bird was named player of the game with 21 points - including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc - and five rebounds. Ivan Rabb had another big day with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Bird connect on five of six free throw attempts.

Charlie Moore played like his normal self and came out of his recent slump with 17 points - including 5-of-8 from long range, and Jordan Mathews added 14 points for the Golden Bears.

As a team, Cal made 15-of-25 3-pointers and 18-of-22 free throws in what was by far the Golden Bears best shooting performance of the season.

Tra Holder, Jonathan Gilling, and Shaquielle McKissic all scored in double figures for the Sun Devils.

Ivan Rabb single-handedly got the Sun Devils into foul trouble with his physical play.

Cal got out to an early 20-8 lead with 7:07 left in the first half, but Arizona State fought back and tied it 30-30 with 1:40 left in the half. The Golden Bears went into the half with a four-point lead, 38-34, and connected on 7-of-11 three-point attemps in the first half.

The intensity from the end of the first half carried over after halftime and the two teams found themselves knotted up 47-47 with 10:01 left in the game.

From that point, Cal would go on an 8-0 run to lead 55-47 with 8:32 left in the game, but Arizona State would close the lead to just a few points until a Bird 3-pointer with 5:47 remaining put the Golden Bears up 69-62. Mathews would follow with another Cal 3-pointer to regain a double-digit lead with 5:43 remaining.

Cal (5-4) ran away with the game from that point to open up Pac-12 play with a much-needed home win over Arizona State (4-3).

BERKELEY - Senior running back Khalfani Muhammad saved his best game for last in California Memorial Stadium to help No. 9 California hold off Stanford 45-35 on senior day and snap a six-game losing streak in the Big Game rivalry.

Muhammad scored the first touchdown of the game on a 3-yard pass from Davis Webb early in the first quarter to go up 7-0. Moments later, Webb found Kanawai Noa to extend the lead to 14-0.

Stanford All-American running back Christian McCaffrey responded with a 14-yard touchdown run for the Cardinal to cut the lead to 14-7 late in the first.

Following the extra point, Muhammad returned the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a Golden Bear touchdown to lead 21-7 after one quarter of play.

Muhammad bursts down the sideline for a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown.

Midway through the second quarter, Muhammad scored his third touchdown of the day on a 3-yard run to extend the lead to 28-7.

Muhammad finished the day with 264 total yards and three touchdowns, racking up 86 on 15 carries on the ground, adding 42 more on eight catches, plus 136 yards on kickoff returns.

Stanford would respond as Keller Chryst found Devon Cajuste on a 17-yard touchdown strike to go into halftime trailing 28-14.

At halftime, Cal seniors were presented with their families and honored in front of the fans for their last game in Memorial Stadium.

Heisman hopeful running back McCaffrey wasn't ready to let the game slip away and found the end zone again from eight yards out to cut the lead to 28-21 mid-way through the third quarter.

When Davis Webb finally got the ball back in his hands, he found Chris Hansen on a 15-yard touchdown strike to make it a two score game again 35-21. The two teams would go into the fourth quarter with that same score.

Noah Beito booted an 18-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter to extend the lead the 38-21, but two plays later McCaffrey would score again on a 22-yard strike from Chryst to cut the lead to 38-28.

Webb wasn't ready to slow down and found Noa in the endzone for the second time from 20 yards out to push the lead to 45-28 and put the game out of reach.

Stanford would score again as Chryst found Francis Owusu for a 6-yard score, but the Cardinal would fall 45-35 at the hands of the Golden Bears.

Golden Bears fans celebrated winning the Big Game.

Webb finished the day 34-of-45 for 402 yards, four touchdowns to three interceptions and added eight carries for 40 yards. Noa led Cal receivers with five catches for 93 yards.

Chryst completed 28 of 40 passes for 350 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions and added 33 yards on the ground on two attempts. McCaffrey carried 17 times for 90 yards and two scores and caught five passes for 34 yards and another score.

Cajuste led all receivers with eight catches for 146 yards and one touchdown.

With the win, No. 9 Cal (11-1, 8-1) advances to the Pac-12 Championship Game on Dec. 14 to take on No. 22 UCLA (9-3, 6-3) in a rematch. The Bruins are the Golden Bears only loss of the year. Stanford remains bowl eligible at 6-6 (4-5 in Pac-12).

ORLANDO - Andell Cumberbatch scored 31 points to lead St. Bonaventure to a 74-71 win over California to take third place in the Deodorant Classic at the University of Central Florida.

Youssou Nodye was also a force for the Bonnies and finished with a double-double, 11 points and 14 rebounds. Dion Wright added 10 points for the Bonnies.

Ivan Rabb led Cal with 24 points and nine rebounds and Jabari Bird added 19 points for the Golden Bears.

St. Bonaventure slipped by Cal behind Cumberbatch's 31 points.

It was a back and forth game in the first half and St. Bonaventure took a 29-26 lead into halftime.

The Bonnies exploded out of the break and lead by 10, 59-49 with 5:53 left in the game, until a foul sent Golden Bears small forward Roman Davis to the line for a pair of free throws.

Moments later, Bird would hit two 3-pointers for Cal to pull within four, 63-59 with 4:06 to go. The Bonnies responded with a score, then Jordan Mathews then hit a three to make it 65-62 with 3:29 left.

Cal would pull within one, 65-64 on a Rabb drive to the basket, but the Golden Bears (4-4) couldn't close the gap and the Bonnies (5-1) slipped out with the win.

ORLANDO - Five players scored in double figures for Villanova as the Wildcats ran away from Cal 89-59 in the second round of the Deodorant Classic.

Darrun Hillard led the way for Villanova with 18 points and eight rebounds and Josh Hart also scored 18 for the Wildcats. Ryan Arcidiacono, Jayvaughn Pinkston and Phil Booth also scored at least 10 apiece.

Darrun Hillard was named player of the game.

Jabari Bird led the way for Cal with 20 points - six 3-pointers - and five rebounds and Jordan Mathews added 18 points, including four 3-pointers for the Golden Bears.

Cal star forward Ivan Rabb was in foul trouble for most of the game and only played 13 minutes, but scored seven points and grabbed nine boards for the Golden Bears.

Cal got out to an early 23-16 lead with 8:06 left in the first half, but Villanova found its rhythm and seemingly couldn't miss for the next 20 minutes.

The Wildcats took a 40-33 lead into halftime and built on it tremendously in the second half to win by 30.

Villanova (2-1) advances to play No. 17 NC State (3-0) in the Deodorant Classic Championship while Cal (4-3) will battle for third place with St. Bonaventure (3-1).

ORLANDO - It took two overtimes and plenty of trips to the charity stripe but California outlasted Georgia State 93-88 last night in the first round of the Deodorant Classic Tournament.

Ivan Rabb was a force for the Golden Bears and a major reason they hung on to force the first overtime. Rabb finished the day with a double-double, 32 points and 15 rebounds.

Rabb's double-double helped the Golden Bears propel past the Panthers.

Jabari Bird had a career day as well, adding 29 points for Cal, including a 5-of-8 outing from beyond the arc. Jordan Mathews added 10 points and Kameron Rooks scored 12 for the Golden Bears.

Cal had its best day of the year from the free-throw line, shooting 19-of-24 as a team, including a stint where they made 17 straight.

Ryan Harrow led the way for Georgia State with a double-double, 27 points and 13 rebounds and gave Cal fits all day long.

R.J. Hunter added 22 points and Jalen Brown grabbed 15 boards for the Panthers.

The Panthers took charge early and got out to a 13-2 lead but the Golden Bears would fight back as Mathews, Bird, and Brandon Chauca each drained a 3-pointer to tie the game up again 24-24 with 4:12 left in the first half.

Georgia State began to pull away again and took a 34-31 lead into halftime.

After the break, both teams were neck-and-neck until the Panthers built an eight-point lead, 59-51 with 4:43 left in regulation.

Mathews cut the lead to five, 59-54, with a 3-pointer with 4:18 to go. Ivan Rabb forced his way to the bucket two more times to pull within two, 61-59.

T.J. Shipes fouled out for Georgia State with 3:28 to go and sent Rooks to the line for two. Rooks made both to tie it 61-61. Both teams scored again to end regulation 63-63

At the end of the first overtime, Rabb scored a field goal to break the tie with 3.6 seconds left, 79-77, but Jordan Session drained a long 2-pointer at the buzzer to force a second overtime.

Deep in foul trouble and with an already thin roster, the Panthers (1-1) were simply spent and couldn't hang on as the Golden Bears (4-2) would pull away with the win.

With the latest ranking Cal is now No. 9 in the country at 10-1, with just one regular season game to go against Stanford. The Golden Bears recruiting class is also coming together as four defensive recruits made their pledges following the Colorado game yesterday.

Compton (Calif.) outside linebacker Gabe Robinson is the highest ranked of the new pledges at 85 overall by the 247Composite. Robinson chose Cal over Boise State, Colorado State and Nevada. At 6-foot-7, 234 pounds, could possibly become a down lineman during his time in Berkeley.

"Cal is definitely on the rise," Robinson told TheBearsDen.com. "They are by far my best offer and they have such a great reputation with academics and athletics, so it was an easy choice for me."

Santa Rosa (Calif.) 6-foot-3, 252-pound defensive end Jesse Paul is rated 82 overall by the 247Composite and chose Cal over Fresno State and San Diego State.

"I know the Bears are losing a lot of defensive linemen so I might be able to get on the field as a freshman or sophomore," Paul said.

El Cajon (Calif.) strong safety Will White chose Cal over offers from Arizona, Colorado, San Diego State and Colorado State. White is rated 79 overall by the 247Composite and is a mean, physical safety who is great against the run.

"I was honored when Cal offered me," White said. "It's a team I've always liked and I couldn't be more excited to be a Golden Bear. I'm 100 percent committed."

Covina (Calif.) strong safety Daniel Williams is also rated 79 overall and two stars by the 247Composite and chose Cal over an offer from Nebraska. Williams is notorious for bringing the hat and forcing turnovers. At 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, Williams also could get a look at outside linebacker.

"I visited Nebraska and I really liked it out there, so it was a tough decision," Williams told TheBearsDen.com. "Cal has been recruiting me since I was a sophomore and it's a lot closer to home so my family can come to more of my games."

BERKELEY - It was a neck-and-neck game for three quarters, but a second-half surge from No. 11 California helped the Golden Bears bury Colorado 42-24.

Hansen hauled in his first of two touchdowns in the second quarter.
.

Colorado struck first on a Christian Powell touchdown run to lead 7-0 in the first quarter, but Cal would respond in the second quarter when Davis Webb found Chad Hansen on a 24-yard touchdown strike to tie it at 7-7.

Noa finished with a career high 209 yards and two touchdowns on 11 catches.

Later in the half, Diego Gonzalez booted a field goal from 33 yards out to give the Buffs a 10-7 halftime lead.

Immediately after the half, on the first drive, Webb found Kanawai Noa on a 72-yard touchdown strike for the Golden Bears' first lead of the game, 14-10, with 6:37 left in the third quarter, but Powell busted open a 65-yard score for the Buffs to regain the lead 17-14.

Webb put together a systematic drive, which ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Vic Enwere to lead, once again, 21-17. The defense would get the ball back for Webb, who found Noa again on a 35-yard strike to extend the lead 28-17.

Colorado (4-6, 2-5 in Pac-12) wasn't done yet as Sefo Liufau found Devin Ross on a 38-yard pass to close the lead to 28-24 as the third quarter ended.

From that point on, it was all Cal (10-1, 7-1), as Webb would run in a touchdown on the ground and find Hansen again one more time to seal the win.

Webb finished the day 30-of-46 for 443 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception. Noa had a career high 209 yards and two touchdowns on 11 catches, and Hansen caught five balls for 89 yards and two scores of his own.

Khalfani Muhammad helped Webb manage the game with 17 carries for 101 yards and several key first downs.

Liufau finished 21-of-45 for 314 yards and one touchdown for Colorado.

KENNESAW - California made 47 percent of 3-point shots to blaze by Texas State 77-68 in the consolation game of the 100 Club Classic on Friday.

Ivan Rabb scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Cal.

Ivan Rabb and Kameron Rooks each had double-doubles for the Golden Bears, as Rabb scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while Rooks added 12 points and 10 boards.

Jordan Mathews added 14 points for Cal, including three 3-pointers.

It was as back-and-forth game in the first half, with Texas State holding a slight lead for most of it until Brandon Chauca hit a 3-pointer to bring Cal ahead 24-22 with 3:35 left until halftime.

Mathews hit his first 3-pointer of the game at the buzzer to end the first half to send the Golden Bears into the locker room up 39-35.

Cal shot 5-of-7 from downtown in the first half and 9-of-19 for the game.

The Golden Bears slowly added to their lead after halftime and pulled ahead by double digits, 49-39 on a Mathews free throw with 10:17 left in the game.

A few minutes later, a Charlie Moore 3-pointer would extend the lead to 54-39 to cap off a 15-4 run for Cal.

The Bobcats (0-2) would be some momentum, but couldn't slow down the Golden Bears offense as Mathews dropped two more 3-pointers in the final five minutes to help Cal (3-2) lead comfortably all the way until the end.
