McConnell led the charge for Arizona with 15 points.
Jordan Mathews led Cal with 19 points and five rebounds and Ivan Rabb added 14 more to go with seven boards.
The Golden Bears hung around the first half as the two teams took a 28-28 tie into the locker room, but after the break Arizona blew the roof off the arena and slowly pulled away.
Arizona out-rebounded Cal 45 to 28 and played a more physical game. Between the 7-minute mark and the 3-minute mark, Cal pulled within two points twice but couldn't close the gap.
As the Golden Bears (9-7, 2-2 in Pac-12) were forced the foul, the Wildcats (8-5, 3-1) were able to extend their lead into double figures for the win.
