Spavital hired as new head coach at Missouri

On Monday morning, The University of Missouri announced the hiring of California offensive coordinator Jake Spavital as its new head coach.

The hire is a homecoming of sorts for Spavital, 31, who played quarterback for Missouri State before starting his coaching career. Spavital coached the Golden Bears for just one season after coaching stints at Texas A&M, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Houston and Tulsa.

"Jake is one of the best offensive minds in college football," Cal coach Sonny ****s said. "It was just a matter of time before a school chose him as their guy and Missouri got a good one.

"Schools want to hire successful people to run their programs and with the success we've had this year, which Jake was a big part of, we knew he was a guy that schools would go after."
