Golden Bears make huge recruiting splash

The Golden Bears got some major news Saturday as Fremont (Calif.) five-star shooting guard Jimmy Bookout committed and signed with Cal on the final day of the early signing period.

"They've been recruiting me for awhile," Bookout told TheBearsDen.com. "They had a really good season last year and I think they're going to surprise some people for the rest of this year."

The 6-foot-5, 199-pounder is ranked as the No. 3 shooting guard in the nation, the No. 2 player in California and the No. 13 player overall by the 247Composite.

Bookout chose Cal over offers from USC, UCLA, Fresno State and several others.

"I had been back and forth between Cal and UCLA for about a month, but I think with Cal, I can be the missing piece," Bookout said. "Most of their best players will be back next year and with Jordan Mathews graduating after this year, I can come right in and fill his spot."

As a junior, Bookout averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for Fremont. He also connected on 42 percent of 3-point attempts.
