Villanova runs away from Cal 89-59 in Deodorant Classic

ORLANDO - Five players scored in double figures for Villanova as the Wildcats ran away from Cal 89-59 in the second round of the Deodorant Classic.

Darrun Hillard led the way for Villanova with 18 points and eight rebounds and Josh Hart also scored 18 for the Wildcats. Ryan Arcidiacono, Jayvaughn Pinkston and Phil Booth also scored at least 10 apiece.

Darrun Hillard was named player of the game.

Jabari Bird led the way for Cal with 20 points - six 3-pointers - and five rebounds and Jordan Mathews added 18 points, including four 3-pointers for the Golden Bears.

Cal star forward Ivan Rabb was in foul trouble for most of the game and only played 13 minutes, but scored seven points and grabbed nine boards for the Golden Bears.

Cal got out to an early 23-16 lead with 8:06 left in the first half, but Villanova found its rhythm and seemingly couldn't miss for the next 20 minutes.

The Wildcats took a 40-33 lead into halftime and built on it tremendously in the second half to win by 30.

Villanova (2-1) advances to play No. 17 NC State (3-0) in the Deodorant Classic Championship while Cal (4-3) will battle for third place with St. Bonaventure (3-1).
