Cal leaves Club Classic 100 Tournament with consolation win over Texas State

KENNESAW - California made 47 percent of 3-point shots to blaze by Texas State 77-68 in the consolation game of the 100 Club Classic on Friday.

Ivan Rabb scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Cal.

Ivan Rabb and Kameron Rooks each had double-doubles for the Golden Bears, as Rabb scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while Rooks added 12 points and 10 boards.

Jordan Mathews made three 3-pointers, all at key moments, and finished the game with 14 points.

Wesley Davis scored 19 points and Jamarcus Weatherspoon added 14 for the Bobcats. Kendall Ramiel came off the bench and scored 15 more, including three 3-pointers and four from the charity stripe.

It was as back-and-forth game in the first half, with Texas State holding a slight lead for most of it until Brandon Chauca hit a 3-pointer to bring Cal ahead 24-22 with 3:35 left until halftime.

Mathews hit his first 3-pointer of the game at the buzzer to end the first half to send the Golden Bears into the locker room up 39-35.

Cal shot 5-of-7 from downtown in the first half and 9-of-19 for the game.

The Golden Bears slowly added to their lead after halftime and pulled ahead by double digits, 49-39 on a Mathews free throw with 10:17 left in the game.

A few minutes later, a Charlie Moore 3-pointer would extend the lead to 54-39 to cap off a 15-4 run for Cal.

The Bobcats (0-2) would be some momentum, but couldn't slow down the Golden Bears offense as Mathews dropped two more 3-pointers in the final five minutes to help Cal (3-2) lead comfortably all the way until the end.
