Cal runs away from Vermont behind Rabb's double-double

BERKELEY - Ivan Rabb led the charge with a double-double to help the Golden Bears put away Vermont 59-41 in their home opener.

Ivan Rabb led the way for Cal with a double-double.

Rabb finished the day with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Charlie Moore added 11 points, shooting 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Center Kameron Rooks also had a solid day, scoring 10 points and pulling down four rebounds.

Everett Duncan led Vermont with 14 points and Brendan Kilpatrick came off the bench to score 11.

The Golden Bears drew a great crowd for their 2016 home opener.

The Catamounts led early 6-5, but Cal would score seven unanswered to lead 12-6 and begin to pull away. The gap continued to widen for Vermont as Cal took a 35-20 lead into halftime.

Vermont (0-1) made some adjustments and managed to slow the Golden Bears (2-0) down a little in the second half, but were still outscored 24-21 after the break.

The Golden Bears led by as many as 22 points, but the Catamounts chipped away at the lead to lose by only 18, 59-41.
