Late touchdown drive keeps Cal's BCS hopes alive

BERKELEY - Davis Webb didn't have the best game of his career, but he put a last-minute drive together and ran in the go-ahead touchdown himself to put the Golden Bears ahead with nine seconds to go and keep their BCS hopes alive with a 28-24 win over Arizona.

Webb scored from seven yards out to take the lead with nine seconds left.

Arizona gave No. 14 Cal fits all game long as the two schools slowly exchanged scores in a back-and-forth defensive battle. With 3:55 to go in the forth, Brandon Dawkins found Nate Phillips from 10 yards out to take a 24-21 lead over Cal.

Phillips led the Wildcats with seven catches for 81 yards and one touchdown and Dawkins finished the day 19 of 33 for 228 yards and three touchdowns to just one interception for Arizona, but it was Webb who had the final say for Cal.

The Bears survived again in front of a sold-out crowd.

Webb put together a drive that took three minutes and 46 seconds and ran it in himself from seven yards out for the win with nine seconds to go.

Webb completed 29 of 42 passes for 301 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Once again, his go-to target was freshman wide receiver Carlos Strickland who hauled in 10 catches for 127 yards and one touchdown.

With the loss, Arizona (3-6, 1-6) has to win out to become bowl eligible while Cal (9-1, 6-1) is playing for a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game and still has hopes of playing in a major bowl game.
