The Conundrum That Is The NBA MVP Award
Posted on March 11, 2009 at 02:25 PM.
When I think "Most Valuable Player", I think of a guy who is everything to his respective team.

That defines Wade right now...period.

If LeBron wasn't on the team, the Cavs would be still be at least .500.

If Kobe wasn't on the team, the Lakers would still be at least .500.

Chris Paul is probably the second "MOST VALUABLE" player to his team. I don't see the Hornets being .500 without him.

But when you think about it...should a guy not get the award just because he has a good team surrounding him?

It only makes sense that the "Value" of one player will go up when there isn't anybody else on the team. Conversely, one player's value goes down when a team adds other "valuable" players.

So the MVP award is definitely a conundrum of sorts.

You have one guy who's team would be horrible without him. Then you have another guy who is on a good team, but would be even more valuable if he was put on a lesser team.

What do you do?
