Break out the cleaning products, time to dust off the ol' blog.

Hello friends. I've been getting the itch to blog again so it is with great excitement that I've decided to fix up my OS Arena a bit and get to typing out my thoughts in blog form yet again.

There certainly is no shortage of things to discuss here. We have huge game releases on the horizon. It's a big sports week with the NBA draft coming up Thursday. We have TONS of new folks on the OS forums, likely migrating here thanks to people like Madden's Ian Cummings and NCAA's Russell Kiniry posting regularly now. And last but certainly not least, I've become a father since my last blog post. With all that said, let's get into it.

We'll start with the fatherhood stuff. Catherine turns 2-months old today. Unbelievable how fast time flies. That was one of the many things people told me before she was born. That, and "get your sleep while you CAN!!!" Turns out one of the two are true. Time indeed does go by quickly but we've been lucky and the little peanut sleeps pretty much through the night now.

Tomorrow is her 2-month doctor's visit and with that comes her 2-month shots. It's amazing. We've spent the last 2-months of our lives trying to protect her with everything we have, yet tomorrow we turn her over to a doctor so he can poke her with a bunch of needles. My poor baby.

On the sports front, tomorrow is the NBA draft and with that comes the winds of change blowing through the league. Two big trades yesterday will give some cap relief to some, while adding much needed cogs to other teams. I can't wait to see the Spurs with Richard Jefferson in the lineup. That'll be entertaining.

Time for all of you Bobcats' fans out there (all 3 of you) to join me in wishing Sean May well in his future endeavors. Looks like he'll no longer be taking up a roster spot and a seat on the bench as GM Rod Higgins yesterday announced the team has elected not to offer him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. Thank God! I have a Bobcats' #42 jersey that they gave away to the first 5,000 fans one game that I've worn more times than he's worn his own jersey.

Little known fact about the Sean May-Charlotte Bobcats era. The night of that draft where Charlotte took both Raymond Felton and May in the 1st round, the New Orleans Hornets offered up their #2 pick for both of Charlotte's 1st round selections. Translation...the Bobcats could've had Chris Paul! Now answer me this. Today, if you could trade Felton and May and get Paul in return, wouldn't you do it? Fantastic decsion not to pull the trigger on that draft day deal, Bobcats!

Now onto the fun stuff - the state of the OS Forums. We, as a collective group of moderators, have been getting tons of complaints of some of the new forum members stirring up trouble, particularly in the Madden and NCAA forums.

Because of this, we've taken a more heavy handed stance with how we handle those two forums. More people are getting infractions. More people are losing access to those forums in one-month increments. And more people are being banned from OS all together than ever before. We're doing our best to deal with the problem children of this forum and all we ask is for your cooperation in return.

  • If you see a post that may be a TOS violation, use the "Report Post" feature.
  • If you see a moderator (red, orange, or green name) chime in on a thread with orders to calm things down, do it.
  • And DO NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, think that just because we have developers posting on our forums, you are somehow entitled to a response from them on every single post you write. Those guys post here on their own time and do their best to answer the forum's more popular concerns. If your pet concern is something you're the only one asking about, chances are your question will go unanswered. Deal with it.
And as always, if you have any suggestions or opinions of how we're handling the forums, while we'd prefer you handle that through PM's with our forum admin, Millennium, feel free to post those concerns here in replying to this blog post. I'll do an entire blog post on how we mod these forums at some point. But for now, feel free to chime in with your comments on how we're doing as a whole.

That's all for now, folks. Have a great Wednesday!

Those her first shots? If so, give her Tylenol before leaving the house to drive to the doctor's. Trust me.

EG:
Yep...first shots since birth. I'll have to call the doctor today and find out which Tylenol to give her...unless you can recommend the type.

Infant Tylenol, comes in a dropper. It's cherry flavor but clear. The dropper goes to 8 something (not ounces obviously LOL), we gave Ethan 4 at that point. A 2 year old should get 16. The doctor said 4 was ok. Now he gets 8, but he weighs over 21lbs. Let me try to find a link to the box so you know what it looks like, keep it on hand, when she starts to go through teething, you'll thank me, the stuff is a Godsend.

That's it.

Best advice I can give you, stand at her head holding her arms down. Look into her eyes and then when the nurse is done with the shots (Ethan got 4 and one oral), pick her up and hug her. She is going to cry like nothing you've ever heard before, it was traumatizing for me as I had tears in my eyes as well. You feel so helpless. The nurse we had up here was great though, had all 4 shots ready to roll and had them in him in less than 5 seconds.

Since, it's obviously gotten easier on us, but he still lets out major cries.

Oh, and this could have been just our kid, but Ethan was very larthargic for a day and a half after the shots. Slept a lot, fussy, and his leg was sore (we could touch it and he'd cry). Doctor's said it was normal and he was back to his normal self pretty quickly.

Good luck, and I hope it goes by quick for the 3 of you!

Good to see you are getting back into the groove of things around here tj. BTW TJ I know it will make you sad alittle when you see you little girl gets her shots. But it for here Health and all. But bro Good to see getting more involved in the community.

Congrats on the baby girl! Definitely give her the tylenol before going. It will help her with the shot.

The forums are definitely hopping right now. They are a bit messy but I think the problems are overblown by some. The report feature is a good one and I use it. People need to remember that free speech doesn't mean you can be an a-hole. There are still consequences for what you write.

Here's hoping Madden is a great game. Because if it ain't, the forums will get really hairy.

Rudy:
I've tried for years to convince Steve that "Don't be an a-hole" should be in the TOS somewhere. Unfortunately, it isn't. :-(

Pantherbeast:
Yeah, I'm sure she'll be fine. I'm more worried about her mother than I am her, lol. Aimee tends to be a little overdramatic about things.

Good blog, I think the problems are more related to the newer posters than anyone else. They don't understand how this site works. I have seen multiple posts where new members are talking about their 1st Amendment right. Well, to the newer posters, It doesn't apply here. This is a privately run site. So keep that in mind next time you are about to reply to a post.

PJ:
"Freedom of Speech" has always been a battlecry for rule breaking members of OS over the years. It's been used almost as much as the old, "My little brother used my account...that wasn't me!" excuse.

# 10 rudyjuly2 @ Jun 24
Newer posters sometimes are over the top. But I've also seen long time posters make the problem worse by getting into silly arguments over stupid posts that should be ignored. Sometimes I see too much self-policing and not enough ignoring or post reporting.

Ugh Sean May. What a waste.

Congrats on the new addition bro. In regards to all the blogging, everyone must realize there's a differance between debating and arguing.

I wish some of the people posting blogs on OS actually used real sentences and paragraphs! They are too hard to read as one long run on sentence.

Just curious, are blogs subject to a different TOS than the forums? They seem much more liberal.

Rudy:
Blogs are supposed to follow the same set of rules the forum does. We obviously don't police them as frequently as we do the forums. As always though, if anyone sees a blog we should take a look at, let one of us know via PM.

Is this going to be daily? I enjoyed reading it.
