U-N-C-W GO HAWKS, GO!!
Posted on November 13, 2008 at 08:58 PM.
Many of you know that I'm an alum of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. College basketball fans might remember the Seahawks upsetting Southern California in the 2002 NCAA Tournament as a 13th seed.

Since that time, the basketball culture of that campus changed. Games sold out. And the people who showed up actually paid attention to the game that was going on, which was a big change from what that program was used to seeing.

Anyway, the point of this blog posting is to share my excitement with you, as my UNCW Seahawks are coming to town next week to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and I will be there. But not as a member of the media. Oh no! I can go cover any Wake Forest game I want with my media pass. But for my Seahawks? I'll be wearing my teal as a full fledged member of "Teal Nation".

I like going to games with a media pass. You get front row seats, free food, great parking, and the priviledge to talk to the coaches and players after the game. But it's stuffy. You can't cheer. You can't clap. You can't show emotion.

With my alma mater coming to town, there is no way in hell I'd be able to follow those rules. So, next week when the Hawks are in town, I'll be in the house sitting near the visitor's section, donning the teal and blue, and screaming my *** off like it's 2002 all over again.

Yeah...that sucked. I was sitting courtside on press row for that one.

TJ You said it best about Media Passes. I've got a nice collection of of them hanging in my work locker. It's just not as much fun. Sure you're eating free food, which at some NFL games is a full elegant spread, but you can't really enjoy the game because you can't cheer.

I guess cheering on the inside is the best way to go, or better yet, just crack a small smile.

The Carolina Panthers do it best, Chubbs. The pregame spread is always food native to the city of the visiting team. The best I've had was Shrimp Jambalaya when the Saints came marching in.

DK: Try getting a media pass next time, lol.

Never had the Panthers. Don't go to the Bengals games. Pre-Game is good but Half Time is Gold Star Cincinnati Style Chili. It's not bad, but when you're in the locker room doing post interviews and feel like WWII is going on in your lower intestine. Then you'll know why I pass.
