Bottom 8 OF: Week 16
Posted on October 7, 2009 at 12:08 PM.
Alright, enough of the "last game, next game" stuff. Let's get down to the nitty gritty:

AFC East
Dookie's wrapped up the division. He needs a loss from the Chargers to secure a 1st round bye, so he can't rest starters and kick back just yet.

AFC North
The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers are tied at 9-5, with the Ravens close behind at 7-6-1. It's anybody's division at this point, but the Browns are guaranteed another loss as they host the Jags in week 17. The Steelers and Ravens play each other in week 16, so one of them will be out of the running. Pittsburgh will probably be the closest competition, as they could likely win out with a game against the Dolphins in week 17.

AFC South
Altimus' Jaguars have wrapped up the division and are currently the #2 seed in the playoffs. He's tied with the San Diego Chargers at 13-1 currently, but San Diego holds an 11-0 conference record vs. the Jag' 9-1.

AFC West
The AFC's best team, the San Diego Chargers, sit at 13-1 and control their own destiny for home field in the playoffs. Win out and they own it. They play at Tennessee this week, and then Altimus will be sending mgoblue a case of champagne if if his Redskins can knock off San Diego in week 17.

NFC East
mgoblue controls his own destiny. He's tied with the Eagles with a pair of victories over them to own the tiebreaker. He'll be playing on wildcard weekend in any case. The Dallas Cowboys are at 8-6, and the Giants at 7-7, so there's an outside chance that anybody in this division could still win it.

NFC North
The Lions need one more win to sew up the division, and face the 4-10 49ers this week. Detroit is 11-3 and has a pair of victories over 2nd place Minnesota at 9-4-1.

NFC South
Steve wins the division and is currently the #2 seed in the playoffs. Hosting the Bucs and at the Panthers are two easily winnable games, so New Orleans should finish the year 14-2 and the #2 seed at worst.

NFC West
The St. Louis Rams win the division, and are currently controlling their own destiny at 12-2. They should win at Arizona this week and at home against the Niners in week 17 to secure home field advantage in the NFC playoffs.

Award Finalists with Two games to play:

Best QB
Jason Campbell, Skins - 234/475, 4825 yards, 41 TD, 31 INT
Matthew Stafford, Lions - 319/511, 4619 yards, 43 TD, 30 INT
Drew Brees, Saints - 287/416, 4390 yards, 42 TD, 14 INT

Campbell has been on a tear, which is incredibly impressive. Both he and Stafford have been turnover machines, however, which will probably hand the "Best QB" award to Drew Brees' magnificent season in New Orleans.

Best RB
Maurice Jones-Drew, Jags - 358 attempts, 1995 yards, 26 TDs
Steven Jackson, Rams - 388 attempts, 1937 yards, 28 TDs
Adrian Peterson, Vikings - 268 attempts, 1735 yards, 14 TDs

It's a two-horse race between the explosive MJD and the workhorse Steven Jackson. The final two weeks will be exciting to stat-watch.

Best WR
Devin Thomas, Skins - 74 rec, 1806 yards, 15 TDs
Calvin Johnson, Lions - 93 rec, 1751 yards, 21 TDs
Steve Smith, Panthers - 99 rec, 1323 yards, 8 TD

Devin Thomas has exploded onto the scene with a huge per-catch average. Calvin Johnson and Steve Smith were expected to put up the numbers, but Thomas was not. Even still, Calvin Johnson's reception and TD numbers will probably win him the award.

Sack King
Albert Haynesworth, Skins - 17
Aaron Maybin, Bills - 15
Marcus Stroud, Bills - 14

If Aaron Maybin hadn't been hurt, this would have been a runaway. As it is, it's a neck-and-neck battle to the end. But how ridiculous is it that the two Buffalo DT's play so well? After seeing Dookie play the DT position, it makes sense now.

Sticky Fingers
Rashean Mathis, Jags - 10 INT
Anthony Henry, Lions - 10 INT
James Butler, Rams - 8 INT

Rashean Mathis is always up here. Anthony Henry seems to get better with age, and James Butler is opportunistic. This will be a close battle in the remaining two games.

We're closing out the final two weeks here, boys! Let's GIT R DONE!!!!!
