Last week's games:
(1-0) Ravens 52, (0-1) Chiefs (Rustedwalleye) 10.
The Ravens appeared to dominate the game on the ground, controlling the tempo of the game and forced 3 interceptions of Dale's Chiefs (2 by Cassel, one by Tyler Thigpen). Willis McGahee ran roughshod over the Chiefs defense to the tune of 25 attempts, 182 yards and 3 TD's.
(1-0) Vikings 37, (0-1) Browns (TJ) 34
In a close game, the Vikings and Browns had a tight game. All of the Browns scores came on quick drives, however, with Minnesota controlling the clock for a staggering 44:07 to 15:53 for the Browns. Minnesota wore them down, kicking the game winning FG with :05 left on the clock.
(1-0) Jaguars (Altimus) 34, (0-1) Colts 27
The Jags jumped out to a huge 31-3 lead (due mainly to intercepting Peyton Manning 4 times in the game--one for the game's first TD), then watched as Manning's Colts closed to within a single TD with under 2 minutes to play. The Jags offense was able to run out the remaining time and secure the win.
(1-0) Saints (Steve) 48, (0-1) Lions (TCrouch) 28
In a game where the Lions could do absolutely nothing right, the Saints took them out behind the woodshed and dispensed a thorough pounding. After quickly driving for the first score of the game on the opening drive, the Lions proceeded to turn the ball over 8 times in the game, and even gave up a 73 yard punt return TD to Reggie Bush.
(1-0) Seahawks 31, (0-1) Rams (Longhorn) 27
The Rams hung tough in this one, despite losing the offensive yards battle 247-434. The Rams were penalized 6 times for 45 yards in this one, and were only 2 for 12 on third down (compared to 9 for 12 for the 'Hawks).
(1-0) Giants 49, (0-1) Redskins (mgoblue) 31.
The Redskins rushing defense was pounded black and blue by the huge Brandon Jacobs. He carried the ball 35 times for 283 yards and an amazing 4 TD's in the contest. Starting the 2009 season off with a game that almost breaks the single-game rushing mark is a good thing in NY. Not so good in DC.
(1-0) Bills 27, (0-1) Patriots 19
In the upset of the week, Dookie's Bills outscored the Patriots 13-0 in the final quarter and pulled out the victory. Terrell Owens was dominant in his showdown with Randy Moss, catching 11 passes for 207 yards and 2 TD's. Production like that will make the Bills a player in the AFC East race this season.
Human Rankings:
#1 (1-0) Bills - Dookie - 1st place, AFC East.
Dookie put on a passing clinic in Foxboro and managed to hold the explosive Pats offense to 19 points.
#2 (1-0) Jags - Altimus - 1st place, AFC South.
Altimus almost let this one slip through his fingers, but beating the Colts wasn't a fluke.
#3 (1-0) Saints - Steve - 2nd place, NFC South
Steve capitalized on a plethora of Lions miscues and sits solidly in 2nd place in his division.
#4 (0-1) Browns - TJ - 3rd place, AFC South
TJ hung in there with the Vikings, but wore down at the end of the game in a close loss.
#5 (0-1) Rams - Longhorn - 4th place, NFC West
Longhorn's simulated Rams put up a fight against the Seahawks but came out on the losing end.
#6 (0-1) Redskins - mgoblue - 4th place, NFC East
mgoblue's rushing defense was thoroughly exposed by the Giants. He'll need to shore up that glaring issue to have any hope of contending for a playoff spot this year.
#7 (0-1) Lions - TCrouch - 4th place, NFC North
TCrouch practically begged for the clobbering this week. Opening the season up with 8 turnovers is not something you want to build a campaign off of.
#8 (0-1) Chiefs - Rustedwalleye - 4th place, AFC West
Dale got embarrased by the Ravens, allowing 247 rushing yards and 52 points. There's nowhere to go but up.
Week 2 Matchups:
(0-1) Raiders @ (0-1) Chiefs (Rustedwalleye)
Walleye looks to rebound after a disaster of an opening game. The Raiders rushing attack may not be any more pleasant to face than the Ravens were, however.
(0-1) Cardinals @ (1-0) Jaguars (Altimus)
Altimus already made one All-Pro Quarterback looks horrible in Peyton Manning. Can he do the same vs. Kurt Warner?
(1-0) Vikings @ (0-1) Lions (TCrouch)
After 8 turnovers in the opener, the Lions will have to have an amazing game to keep the Viking combination of Favre and Peterson contained.
(0-1) Rams (Longhorn) @ (0-1) Redskins (mgoblue)
In our only human matchup of the week, mgoblue will try to prove that the opening week gashing by Jacobs was a fluke. Longhorn's Steven Jackson will attempt to prove otherwise.
(1-0) Saints (Steve) @ (1-0) Eagles
Steve will face a real team this week. The Eagles will not gift-wrap a win as easily as the hapless Lions did. If the Saints can move the ball well through the air, though, it could be a great 2-0 start for New Orleans.
(1-0) Buccaneers @ (1-0) Bills (Dookie)
The Bucs will have to find a way to control Terrell Owens in this one. At least Dookie has a fan this week in Steve. If Steve wins and Dookie beats the Bucs, Steve then leads his division. Yes, it's still early, but with our bottom-feeder teams, any lead is a good one.
(0-1) Browns (TJ) @ (0-1) Broncos
TJ's team just wore down against the physical Vikings offense. The Broncos will not be able to grind it out like Minnesota did. Kyle Orton will not force much of a defensive adjustment like Brett Favre does. Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal will have to be accounted for, but they can't control a game like Adrian Peterson can.
(1-0) Ravens 52, (0-1) Chiefs (Rustedwalleye) 10.
