Before I start, this blog entry will not delve in to the past as I, like Michael Vick it appears, only want to look at the present and future.
Michael Vick has started the season with some quality, quality football at the QB position since taking over from Philadelphia Eagles starter Kevin Kolb and his second career as a NFL superstar is about to unfold from where I sit.
Heading in to week three, Vick has a QB rating of 105.5. The former Virginia Tech star has thrown three TD passes and perhaps the most eye catching statistic, zero interceptions. Whilst a game and a half doesn't make a season, it sure makes for a great start and I cannot see Coach Reid persisting all too long with Kolb if he falters upon his return this week.
There are still some doubting the longevity of Michael Vick in his second career as a NFL starting QB. The concerns are a valid, some sight his age, some say his time away from the game will be his biggest hurdle. I am not prepared to assert Vick is a lock to hold down a starting job for the next five plus seasons though I do like his chances. The guy has talent by the bucket load and I look to the career of Hall Of Fame QB Steve Young at 30+ years of age (as should Michael Vick).
Steve Young was a great QB, which goes without saying. Young is in both the College and NFL Halls Of Fame. But if we look at Steve Young in the pros, it all happened in for him 1991 when at the time he was seen as a bit of bust albeit one hell of a back up QB since joining the Niners in '87 from the Bucs.
Joe Montana was injured in the pre-season of '91 and Young, at 30 (the same age as Michael Vick today), went on to play nine seasons as starting QB and the rest as they say is history. Young's career numbers and achievements rival any football player that has played the QB position.
Now, I am not saying Vick will go on and have a career like Steve Young, though I am saying that Vick at 30 still has plenty to offer if he wants it enough. I think he does. The guy has grown up, the guy appears to maturing as a football player and if his recent interview on ESPN is anything to go by, Michael Vick sounds like he is "getting it" when it comes to play from a QB.
I am of the opinion Michael Vick will have a better end to his career than he did when starting it at the Atlanta Falcons. Will it be as an Eagle? I can't answer that, it's unlikely given Kolb is viewed as the long term leader. But I do believe if Coach Reid doesn't want to take a chance on him for the next five or more seasons, there is a coach out there willing to gamble on number seven. Time will tell, though buckle up Vick fans, the rollercoaster has only just begun - again.
In closing, congratulations to a great start this season Michael Vick. It's been enjoyable to watch this season and I find satisfaction in seeing a man who was at his lowest ebb continue to rebuild his life on and off the field. I do believe in second chances (for the most part, though that's a whole new blog and a little too controversial for OS) and Vick is making the most of his. There is a lesson in the story of Michael Vick, a lesson worth learning for some on the cusp of entering the NFL.

I dont think he will be in philly next year, I think he will be in Minn. Favre will be gone(hopefully) and he could make that offense so dynamic, with him, AP, a healthy Harvin and Rice.

Can't wait for Vick to start somewhere else where he can continue to show his growth!

I like your thinking hawkeye2188, I think the Vikings are a definite possibility though would Andy Reid like to trade him to a team that is going to be vying for a NFC birth in the Super Bowl? It will be interesting though from the Vikings perspective, I think the move would an attractive one.

Vick is what he is.
He's good enough to win with for a regular season.
You can even win a playoff game with him.
But somewhere along the way,you will always run into a well coached, disciplined, good defense, that understand how to take away his running lanes, and will force him to be a pocket passer.
We all know what the outcome is, when that happens.

Coach Reid has made the right move in reinstalling Vick as his starter, the Eagles have momentum with him at QB, why rock the boat? Kolb ain't the first and won't be the last starting QB to lose his spot due to a vet backup coming in and doing a great job for his team.

Further highlights the maturity found by Michael Vick. The interview is particulary good, take the time to listen to a more composed, mature, thoughtful man content with life at the moment.
