I think the reason a salad costs more than a burger is because of a couple reasons. Salads are more labor intensive, need to be hand prepared, and can't be stored very long. On top of that, I think restaurants know the types of people who buy salads are usually more health conscious individuals. I think it's believed that the majority of health conscious individuals are not poor enough to fret over the price of their salad instead of the burger. Just my opinion.
