The All-Underrated Team in NBA 2K13 Stuck
Posted on February 18, 2013 at 01:28 PM.

I have as much fun as anyone building a team around a few superstars in NBA 2K13. It’s fun to pick a different position of emphasis and then see what you can do building around young up-and-comers like Kyrie Irving or Anthony Davis (or both if you want some serious fast break fun). But inevitably, after the first few rounds of any fantasy draft, you have to start picking the bench, and not all benches are created equal. So what if you put together a whole team of these guys?

The All-Underrated Team doesn’t have a focal point on offense nor on defense, but instead is built around a set of players with very specific abilities using those abilities in very specific ways. The difficulty is that you have no player you can just throw the ball to to get points, but the result is a team that forces you to play a system if you want success.

(Note: Before we get into it, “underrated” in this case doesn’t mean that these players should be more highly rated, but more that the skills they do have don’t combine to give them a high overall rating. With two exceptions, everyone on this team is rated 75 or lower overall, despite having high marks in a few specific areas.)

Point guard
The starting point guard for the team is D.J. Augustin, who’s rated a 72 overall. But in addition to decent shooting (a 78 rating from three) and solid Passing (80), Augustin sports high marks in Speed (90), Quickness (93), Handle (93) and Off-Hand Dribbling (91). What this gives you is a nimble PG who can run the pick-and-roll very well and get into the paint to finish. Backing him up is Jerryd Bayless (70 overall), who’s a better shooter (90 from Midrange, 80 from 3) and even faster (96 Speed, 99 Quickness) although not as sure of a ball-handler.

Shooting guard
Starter Jamal Crawford is as close as this team gets to a star. Rated a 79 Overall, he’s built to penetrate with his 99 Handle, 97 Off-Hand Dribbling and solid Close (83) and Midrange (91) shooting. His backup is Nick Young, whose 73 Overall rating belies his nearly automatic touch from 3-point range. His 84 rating from distance combines with his Corner Specialist and Microwave signature skills to make a player who will almost always hit the open corner 3—a shot that should be readily available on this team built for driving and kicking.

Small forward
The small forward position on this team provides a few different options. Starter Danny Green has an 85 rating from 3, plus the Corner Specialist signature skill. He can also play shooting guard and defends well there thanks to his length (6’6”). Bringing Gerald Green (70 Overall) off the bench provides you with a great finisher on the break (92 Speed, 95 Quickness, 90 Dunk, 97 Vertical) while Steve Novak gives you the best 3-pt shooting in the game (92, plus Spot Up Shooter and Corner Specialist signature skills). With a 53 overall rating, Novak is almost always available for any team wanting him. He only does one thing, but he does it tremendously well.

Power forward
Down low, this team is not built for offense. Instead, the frontcourt is all about D. Larry Sanders (who's listed as a center but mostly plays PF) provides rim protection (90 Block) and decent rebounding (83 Offensive, 80 Defensive), while his backup, Troy Murphy (66 Overall), provides a surprising amount of rebounding (89 Defensive Rebounding) while also sporting an 83 in 3-pt shooting to deliver some good pick-and-pop options.

Center
Once again, defense and rebounding is the name of the game here. Tyson Chandler is legitimately underrated at 77 Overall given his ratings (90 Low Post Defense, 95 Defensive Awareness, 94 Offensive Rebounding, 82 Defensive Rebounding). Can he hit a shot outside the paint to save his life? Not really, but if he’s shooting from there, you’re misusing him. Likewise, if you use his backup, DeAndre Jordan (74 Overall), for blocks (92 Block rating) and rebounding (93 and 80 in Offensive and Defensive Rebounding, respectively), plus as a finisher on alley-oops, he’s fantastic.

This set of players gives you the freedom to run a traditional pick-and-roll offense, a spread pick-and-roll offense (with Chandler or Jordan at C and Murhpy or Novak at PF), work out of floppy sets, and set up isos. You won’t be able to do much with dumping it down low or running the break (you’ll end up with a lot of turnovers if you force it), but as long as you’re disciplined, this can be a fun team to run with. And of course, any of these players can be solid additions to any roster if you use them properly.

Who are some of your favorite underrated players in NBA 2K13?

Am I the only one who noticed this??

Then the article proceeds to talk about how the starting SG is a 79 and Tyson Chandler being a 77?

Nolan smith is an extremely solid backup at PG. I have no problem bringing him in off the bench when Lillard needs a break. His mid range game is decent, and surprisingly can pretty easily drive to the hole and beat the average defender off the dribble. I'm definitely trading for him in my next franchise with Detroit.

NEVER USE D.J. AUGUSTIN. When I play with him, he's literally the worst player in the game.

Uh, @Steelers=SuperBowl, that's what I meant when I said there were two exceptions. And I still think Chandler and Crawford play better than their ratings. To me, they're more like mid-80s players than high 70s. I stand by my assessment.

IMO, Brandon Wright should be on here.

I drafted him late in a fantasy draft and put him as my starting center in year two. Averaged 18 and 7 his first year then 18 and 8 his second year.

My favorite underrated players, at each position: If you know how to use these guys youll easily drop 30 with any of them against even the toughest competition

PG: Mo Williams, only a 78 overall, but a good passer, 81 shoot off dribble and high 80's on both mid range and 3point shot, I believe his mid range is a 88 and 3pointer is a 85, don't quote me on that though, I Absoloutley love Mo on this game tho, I've got MVP with him in a couple leagues because of his scoring and passing abillity's

PG. Donald Sloan, perfect example of why ratings don't always mean everything, 63 overall and 71 midrange and 70 pointer but still is an effective scorer that I always want on my team in online association's

SG/PG. Josh Selby, his jump shot is absolutley WET and he will dunk on your grandma

SG/PG Daniel Boobie Gibson, one of the easiest Shooting forms on the game and well known for his shooting

SG. Dion Waiters, Alot people I **** with on this game don't like Waiters, that's because most people only run around looking for open 3point shooters, Dion is not a 3point shooter he is a scorer, A damn good one too if you use him right, he is extremely effective driving to the basket, you wouldn't know it by looking at his rating but this guy dunks on EVERYBODY and he's very good at making contact layups and getting to the line aswell, Now he does have a 74 3point rating these days compared to the 69 he had when the game came out, It will fall if he is given space and you time the release right

SF. Alonzo Gee, Great Video game player, I like to run a zone and use him as a PF, Will grab alot of rebounds because of his length and leaping ability, has a nice three point rating and a easy form, good versatile player for your team

SF. Rodney Carney, alot like Alonzo Gee, Versatile forward that can play anywhere 2-4, Will dunk on every one, an effective 3point and midrange shooter if given some space

PF. Lamarcus Aldridge, I understand he's an 87 overall, but I consider him underrated, Alot of people don't realize how effective big man are at scoring on this game and Aldridge is hands down the best, you practice working on post moves and once you perfect them I guarantee you will be unstoppable with this dude, there will be almost no point of even using the rest of the team, If you use him right he is an easy bet for 50 points every game

SF. Nick Batum, Pretty Mutch Rudy Gay if you take away the ability to make Tough shots off the dribble

C. B.J. Mullens, Great shooter for being so damn big, and he will rebound his *** off aswell

PF. Tyrus Thomas, I love this dude on this game, I like to have 2 big men run C. And PF. Then run Tyrus at the small forward because he is crazy athletic and energetic and is pretty good shooter for a PF

SF/PG Luke Walton, lol and last but not least Luke Walton, I get kicks out of playing against people with this guy because every body thinks he sucks, then when I start knockin down multiple 3's in there face they don't know what to think, Nah Luke Walton does suck in real life, He plays for my team I've witnessed it the last two years he's really bad, but on this game he like Lamar Odom with a better shot, he can run the point with a 75 pass rating and an 89 Ball Security

Definitely Klay Thompson and Chandler Parsons.

# 23 jaymoe83 @ Apr 8
I've killed with all of those players (except Larry Sanders, never really used him) before so I agree completely with the list.

# 24 jaymoe83 @ Apr 8
