My NBA 2K13 All-Star selections Stuck
Posted on January 21, 2013 at 11:34 AM.

With the NBA All-Star game starters now announced and the announcement of the reserves to come on Thursday, it seems like a good time to unveil my own picks for the NBA 2K13 All-Stars. Whereas in the real world the starters are chosen by the fans (resulting in a popularity contest) and the reserves by the coaches (resulting in considerations not just for performance but for fit and balance), I chose my All-Stars based almost strictly on who is the most fun to use in the game. And I don’t even have to worry about injuries!

I selected two guards and three frontcourt players as starters for each conference, then picked reserves based on splitting the ten remaining spots between the front- and backcourt.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

G - Kyrie Irving
G - Paul George
FC - Carmelo Anthony
FC - LeBron James
FC - Josh Smith

Reserves:
Gs - Nick Young, J.R. Smith, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Jrue Holiday
FCs - Thaddeus Young, Tyson Chandler, Greg Monroe, Chris Bosh, Larry Sanders

A couple Eastern Conference notes: Paul George in the game is almost unfair between his height, 3-pt shooting and dunking ability. Nick Young and J.R. Smith are just about automatic from 3-pt range. Thaddeus Young plays way above his rating at the PF spot, grabbing more rebounds than he has a right to, plus has good shooting range once you master his funky release (it’s super-late). Larry Sanders blocks everything coming at the rim. Greg Monroe is a terrific passer from the high post and has strong jumpshot.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

G - Chris Paul
G - James Harden
FC - Kevin Durant
FC - Blake Griffin
FC - LaMarcus Aldridge

Reserves:
Gs - Eric Bledsoe, O.J. Mayo, Russell Westbrook, Jamal Crawford
FCs - Rudy Gay, Kenneth Faried, Anthony Davis, Marc Gasol, Andrei Kirilenko

A couple Western Conference notes: James Harden is flat-out the most fun player in NBA 2K13 this year. Aldridge is having a down year in real life, but he continues to be a great video game power forward. Crawford has one of the best assortments of dribbling moves since Iverson, plus shoots the lights out. Rudy Gay is another video game dream, much like George in the East. Andrei Kirilenko can be tough to play with at first, but he does all the little things well and frequently ends up with the kind of five by five stat line he often approaches in real life.

So who are your All-Stars for NBA 2K13?

Personally, I don't have much fun playing with Bryant, but not because I hate him. Again, this list is based on my personal feelings on the players I'd most like to have on these teams if I were playing with them. Let's try to maintain perspective.
