Of course as of last Sunday this changed. Time Warner Cable (Which is the only television provider in my area (Can't have any dish without severe interference.) finally reached a deal with the NFL for the two channels.
So it meant this Sunday I spent my day watching NFL RedZone on my 60' LCD. My initial thoughts? Holy crap.
It's a crazy experience. There is rarely ever a dull moment. Rather it's continuous swapping. On one hand it's awesome. No commercials, I get to see live updates of every game playing simultaneously, and big highlights are still shown as well.
The downsides? No defense. Like seriously, all I'm seeing most plays is red zone defense (Which tends to be drastically different from the typical defensive game plan.) There's no breaks or intermissions. Even when going to a game I get a few minutes to go to the restroom, hit up the concessions stand, or even just stretch my legs. And lastly? Well occasionally you get pulled away from a nail-biter you'd love to stay watching.
Of course most of those problems are easily fixable. Whenever I wanted to watch the game play out between the Raiders and Steelers (Thank you Raiders!), I'd simply switch over to CBS in HD and watch the game.
Bathroom breaks while costly (I ended up missing a Cardinals fumble recovery for a touchdown from Vick) aren't too bad. I mean we're talking hours of continuous exciting football.
All in all I love RedZone. Adding that I also now have a channel that is PURELY NFL all the time? Well that's icing on the cake. No longer do I need to wade through clips from Nascar races or baseball plays to listen to analysts discuss my favorite sport. The in depth coverage is really a blessing.
