Shamhat1915's Blog
This has nothing to do with any actual athletes. Instead, this is all about me. Now, as some of you may have noticed, I have not been active on the boards again. Before the reason has always been time. I didn't have the time to get online, or something like that. This time, it is a very different reason.
As you can probably tell by the title, my most recent absence from the boards has been due to a sports injury. More specifically, a partial subscapularis tear. For those of you who don't know, the subscapularis is a large triangular muscle which fills the subscapular fossa and inserts into the lesser tubercle of the humerus and the front of the capsule of the shoulder-joint. In simpler terms, if allows the frontal rotation of your arm. If left untreated, this injury can lead to a torn rotator cuff.
I suffered this injury playing tennis. Preparing to serve the ball, I stretched my arm over my head and felt something give. At first I just thought I dislocated something, maybe popped something. After several days, it was still killing me, so I went to a doctor. And you see the result.
Now this type of injury is more common from repetitive overhand motions, so you would see this more in baseball players. Now, I just wanted to talk a little about it. After this surgery, it will probably take 8-12 weeks to recover enough to be able to start strengthening it once again. So this injury can sideline you for a good portion of time. Now, professional athletes may be able to recover from it sooner, I'm not sure.
Anyway, this is why I have been on a little leave of absence from this site. And why I may be limited for a longer period of time. Anyway, thank for reading this, if you did. If not, that's okay as well. I just wanted to talk a little about my injury.
