After the assessing the current state of the San Fran secondary, I decided to actively look at picking up at least 1 new DB through trading. Firstly I decided that due to my overload of safeties, one of them had to go. Now 2nd round pick Taylor Mays isn�t going anywhere so it came down to 8 year vet and starter Michael Lewis [80OVR], or sophomore Curtis Taylor [63OVR]. Now as much as I like Lewis I decided I could get more value for him than Taylor, which also meant I was making the decision before pre-season was over that Taylor Mays was going to be my starter, risky business! Anyway for this to happen I had to get a good deal first. To that end, before our second pre-season game against Minnesota, I put Lewis on the trade block asking for cornerbacks rated at least 81 in return.

From the options that were on the table, I went an did a bit of research which revealed to me the best choice moving forward was Thomas from the Giants. I didn�t only go for him because he was the highest rated but because he had the characteristics I�m looking for namely, strength [64], awareness [76], tackling [70], power [77], stamina [95] as well as good pursuit [85], play recognition [86], zone [89] and man coverage [83]. Add in the fact he�s still 25 years old, 6�0, 199lbs and scheduled to make $850k, and I thinks it�s a good move.

In other news i also picked up Myron Rolle, the rookie who was cut by the Titans as i feel he has high potential and could give me more depth in a now very young safety corps. It's a 1 year deal he's signed to, so if he plays well he'll get an extension in the off season, if he doesn't, he'll probably become a doctor a lot quicker than he anticipated
