I play in a 30 team sim basketball league that has been extremely active for the past few years and to a man, everyone has a complaint about the lack of control you have at times playing this game. Here are a few instances of the scripted action that are just unacceptable when you are playing another human being:
Scripted missed shots to allow the dunk rebound.
Scripted fast breaks when the defending team is artificially slowed down to allow the break to complete.
Scripted crossovers that move human controlled defenders out of the way.
Scripted movement of defenders to allow open shots and passes to not be deflected.
Scripted dunk animation that complete NO MATTER THE DEFENDERS POSITION.
Scripted super defense which allows defenders to intercept passes that they cannot see. (Just as bad as completing passes that the defender can see)
Rebounds that is predetermined. (Rebound secured in hand before magically getting popped in the air, or great rebounders that do not attempt to box out.)
Defensive tipped balls that freeze the passer for over a second to allow the defender to complete the turnover.
Bobbled pass animations that you have to watch while the defenders steal the ball away.
The lack of defensive awareness to allow dunkers to walk into the lane.
Disabled user control to allow another user who has momentum to complete a shot without being contested.
I am sure there are others that OS users have grown frustrated of but why has 2K gotten away with this? If this was EA, we would have flamed them a long time ago asking for a fix. EA would never deliver the fix but that’s beside the point. EA has the online tuning system but it doesn't fix the lack of football play but I digress. 2K needs to give us FULL USER control and kill this animation at all cost nonsense.

@nutsackII - " I never felt in control of my players." And this is why I wrote the blog. I dont know ANYONE who does not feel this game steals user control away. In our league we do not allow skilled players to use the Miami Heat. The worst player is given this team due to the amount of CPU assistance as he will be gifted a few wins no matter what. Also with this system, it kills the game balance. Scripted sequences with a higher rated team, makes it extremely difficult to get a clean game.
There are times in which the game feels like its playing itself, especially when players are in the paint. (BTW, When is 2K going to fix the 3 seconds in the paint bug. Strong post players can make multiple moves in the paint without the whistle blowing.)
My point is that I do not believe these are bugs in gameplay. I truly believe the game was designed to play this way to allow the animations to look accurate. The problem is this doesn't allow for a fun player vs player game. I don't want the CPU helping me nor do I want the CPU helping my friend beat me. Playing the CPU you expect to be "cheated" to a certain degree, but when I am playing my friend I want to win or lose without assistance. The initial few minutes of the game always feels good, but that is when the AI starts to balance the game out but allowing the losing team to make a run. C'Mon 2K, there has to be a better way of doing this.

I disagree. Been playing the game since Dreamcast. It's a great game taken for what it is. A video game. Understand the coding demands that go into making the game realistic and you'll be a bit more forgiving of these "extraordinary flaws" you mention. What setting do you play on? Default settings are for kids and general population. Its going to have some pronounced cartoonish features and the coding errors that come with that. They are trying to simulate a 12 minute game in 6-5. I would recommend you try playing 2k on HOF Sim settings (6-7 mins) with friends who really know how to play. Contact is turned up and the fantastic default settings that permit a lot of what you are complaining about are toned town. At default level the game is a commercial product made for everybody to enjoy. For true basketball fans or fanatics. The sim settings exist for the realism you seek. If you still have the same complaints at that level. I'd say its a user issue. I'm 31 and am a big fan of the game. I watch a real basketball game and see more similarities b/w the real game and 2k (on HOF SIM settings). That's about all you can ask for. Definitely hope the keep improving the game. But I will ask that you base some of those critiques from playing at those levels actually intended to simulate that game. Personal call tho. Whatever works for you really

for the most part, I disagree.
2k does a great job, and the issues you complain about are very minimal.

The animations are so bad at times, you can't do simple things, like just turn and walk to the indicator to start a play. Instead your players always have to start with a skip or a side shuffle. Which makes it really annoying.
And then you have players who take advantage of animations. They perform moves that easily put you in positions to score. It's gotten so bad to an extent, I don't do any moves that make the defender lost control of his player. I call myself Anti-Animation Man.
Last year, the spin out of the post was very hard to stop, also the fade a way. Due because your man was handicap in to being able to put his self into position to defend properly because he was performing animation that you have no control over.
I felt for years, they need to take out the tip dunk animations. They look so fake, especially when some players who's not likely to perform them. It needs to be a smooth transition that looks and feels real, by players that are capable of doing so.
On the flip side, even though some of the ball bobbling is annoying, it's apart of the game. I hate it when it happens, and sometimes it can be over exaggerated. But it brings the reality of real life to the game. How sometimes, some players make the simplest mistakes, and how sometimes the ball just gets away from them.
I think 2K has eliminated some animations that were getting out of control.
