Boxing(Fight Night): Sports or Arcade fighting game treatment |
Posted on October 27, 2013 at 04:14 PM.
I have notice many past boxing games have taken the somewhat arcade approach to boxing games. The boxers didn't really have an identity beyond their names and one or two punches they used. They appeared to be meer action figures or Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots going back and forth without techniques and capabilities that the boxer are known for.

There is an arcade and realistic version of every sports game on the market but it seems like boxing games get an arcade version and a semi arcade version. When companies make game like this it's confusing to the casual fans and sports game novice who are not aware of everything in boxing the sport. This causes a great riff or separation in the boxing gaming communities.

The casual fans want it to stay like an arcade fighter and the boxing fans want it to represent the sport as realistic as possible. Boxing games can sell very well if they give fans of the sport what they want, sim and realism. The fan wants to feel like they have control over a boxer within his known abilities. A fan wants to be wowed about facing a CPU AI opponent and knowing he's reacting like that boxer is supposed to beyond the cosmetics. The online players and fans want boxer(s) and their opponent's boxer to fight with weaknesses and strengths of the real boxer they are using.

Boxing isn't boring as some people try to hypnotise people into believing. If you have full control of a boxer in a game you can do what you want as far as boxing goes but you have to be aware that after every action is a result you may like or may not like. Boxing can be a thinking man's sport or an athlete's friend through physical strengths. A boxing is a sport and treated like one in a boxing game.

BOXING IS A SPORT
