"CPU VS. CPU" Your thoughts
Posted on March 2, 2013 at 11:15 PM.
Who hasn't let the computer play by itself? I mean let the computer play as their favorite team, fighter or athlete to see how realistic the outcome would be. Many want to see does the CPU VS. CPU act and react realistic to that athlete(player) or team.

There are some gamers who may want to see if Kobe Bryant will be a ball hog, or how your favorite quarterback reacts to a situation that could win or lose it for the team in the final seconds of a game, or a boxer using a strategy to win against a hard puncher who could knock them out at any second.

There are well put together text sims out there that remind me of what people expect and want from CPU vs. CPU results. The fans who do this want to see if the tendencies, abilities, and traits are right and exact.I think NBA 2k has done the best job implementing CPU vs. CPU and coaching mode.

I hate that some gaming companies remove CPU vs. CPU from their games that originally had them. I think this is because they may think fans might see mistakes in the overall computer AI.

I use CPU vs. CPU as entertainment in which I act like a manager, coach, trainer, owner or promoter if these options are not available in a game. I always wonder why most sports games don't keep these options. The fans don't ask for them to be taking out, so I wonder why they are removed.

Most fans want more control and options of over basically everything in their sports games. They want to set prices like an owner and promote an event like a promoter. Game developers and producers have to satisfy their sports nerds and geeks with feature to co-exist with them wanting them to do CPU vs. CPU sim style.

Does it even matter or are you for the option in a sports game.

I remember watching CPU vs CPU games on NFL2ksomethingorother and enjoying it as if it were a real life game. I don't recall having done this and watching it to see player tendencies but I do remember thinking about how lifelike it seemed overall. This was years ago, and before I got into simulation style play of sports games but this post has made me think... maybe I'll try a CPU vs CPU game on NHL13 tonight.

CPU vs. CPU is my yard stick I used to measure the computer AI. I want to see how the players(athletes) act and react.

As the Self Proclaimed KING of CPU vs CPU; I feel obligated to comment.
What Shakyr says is only half right in my case.
The main reason I do CPU vs CPU is precisely because I do not want MY actions to impact the outcome. Only if EVERY Team is being run by the CPU can I feel confident in the results.. I mean I take NO/Zero/Nada! Actions. I want it to be pure.
Secondly, I do CPU vs CPU not just for my team, but for EVERY team in the League. Not only does that keep statistics consistant, but it also serves as a virtual Satelitte Dish. That way I get to SEE each and every game. And yes, I do watch every single game, at least until a new game comes out and I switch sports.
Thirdly, I ONLY do CPU vs CPU. Mainly because, I hate to admit this, but I have ZERO skills. I don't even know how to pitch a
ball in The Show or dunk in 2K13. So I guess thats a bit of laziness, But I do it every night.

And it would be a disaster for me if they take out CPU. I would be literally dead in the water. The game becomes a coaster.
Best CPU games? Madden 2006, MLBThe Show any year and 2K13,

One more thing... CPU vs CPU is the only true way to test the AI on any game. If the game has flaws, they'll show up CPU vs CPU.

not bashing, I never understood the fascination with CPU vs CPU games. as a user, what do you do, just watch. if that's the case then why not just watch real life games.
Ive never attempted a cpu vs cpu game, nor any game in coach mode.

To answer Tril;
Yeah, I just watch the games. The "Game" to me is about getting the most realistic stats possible. It usually takes me six months to get my sliders "Just Right". And my reward is to able to just sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor as though I'm watching real games. But I'm not watching real games, I'm watching an alternate reality with no greed, no relocation, no realignments, and no egos among other things.
It's the sports world the way it was when I was a kid.
But I might be unique in that I tend not to follow one team. My interest is in how the League unfolds itself.
But as I said, the work is in getting things to work Just Right. It's a different esoteric.

Jimbo614 , Yes your post is what I do alot too. This is why I love text-sims and wish graphic driven games gave us the same tools to make the correct adjustments.
