The NBA Finals began this week, featuring the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat (read more below). The Stanley Cup Payoffs have gotten down to the Conference Finals, so let's get right to counting down this week's list.
5. June 4: Philadelphia Phillies 7, Miami Marlins 3 (F/11)
Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Marlins got single runs in the 2nd and 5th to take a 2-0 lead, but the Phillies tied it with 2 of their own in the 7th. So they went to extra innings. In the 10th, Juan Pierre scored on a wild pitch to give Miami a 3-2 lead, but John Mayberry, Jr. quickly tied it up in the bottom half of the 10th on a solo home run. Mayberry came to the plate again in the 11th with the game tied at 3 and the bases loaded. He launched his 2nd home run of the game, a walk off grand slam, and his second home run in extra innings to give the Phillies a 7-3 win.
4. June 6: NBA Finals, Game 1: San Antonio Spurs 92, Miami Heat 88
American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida

The first game of The Finals was back and forth. The Heat took a first half lead due to the foul trouble of Tim Duncan. The Spurs came back in the second. Down 3 after the end of the third quarter, the Spurs showed why they are here. Tony Parker led the Spurs with clutch shots down the stretch, and the Spurs outscored the Heat by 7 in the 4th to win by 4 and take a 1-0 lead in the Finals.
3. June 6: Boston Red Sox 6, Texas Rangers 3
Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
The two best teams in the American League coming in, the Red Sox and Rangers showed why by getting two quality starts, one by Derek Holland of the Rangers, and the other by Jon Lester of the Red Sox. The Rangers got two home runs in the first 3 innings to take a 3-0 lead, but Lester calmed down after that. The Red Sox got two back in the bottom of the third off of Dustin Pedroia's 2 run double. After leaving 10 men on base through the first 6, the Red Sox finally tied it in the 7th after the Rangers failed to convert a double play ball hit by former Ranger Mike Napoli. After the Red Sox bullpen held the lead, David Ortiz hit a line drive walk off 3 run home run, something he has done numerous times in his 11 seasons with the Red Sox. The Sox gave themselves a 6-3 win, further improving their record on an extraordinary season so far.
2. June 5: Chicago White Sox 7, Seattle Mariners 5 (F/15)
SafeCo Field, Seattle, Washington
Let's pick this one up in the top of the 14th. Tied 0-0, the White Sox put together a couple of singles and a double to take a 5-0 lead. That seemed to be the dagger, but in the bottom of the inning, down 5-1, Kyle Seager came to the plate and belted one to right center. That grand slam would tie the game at 5, after both teams had gone scoreless for the first 13. In the 15th, the White Sox scored 2 more off two more singles by Alejandro De Aza and Alex Rios to take a 7-5 lead. They would hold this lead to secure a marathon 7-5 win.
1. June 5: Stanley Cup Playoffs, Eastern Conference Finals Game 3 (Bruins Lead 2-0): Boston Bruins 2, Pittsburgh Penguins 1 (F/2OT)
TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
After winning both games in Pittsburgh, the Bruins looked to take a commanding 3-0 series lead to get 1 win away from a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals. David Krejci made his case less than two minutes into the game, giving Boston a 1-0 lead. After Chris Kunitz snuck one by Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask to tie it at 1, both teams remained scoreless through the second, third, and first overtime period. Then, 3/4 of the way through a second overtime, Patrice Bergeron sent the Bruins fans home happy with a goal off a slick pass from Brad Marchand to take a 3-0 series lead.*
*The Bruins won game 4 to complete the sweep, and now await the winner of the Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals.
