The NBA Playoffs are reaching their climax, which means that every game is worthy of making this list. Congratulations to the Spurs for advancing to the NBA Finals. The Heat and Pacers are right behind them, playing a very entertaining series so far.
Meanwhile, there are countless MLB extra inning or walk offs each night, so it has to be something special to make this list. Let's take a look and give an update on Lord Stanley's Cup.
5. May 31: Baltimore Orioles 7, Detroit Tigers 5
Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland

After Miguel Cabrera hit his 12th HR of May to give his Tigers a 2-0 lead, Max Scherzer would give the lead right back to the Orioles in the third on an Adam Jones home run. Scherzer settled down after that, going 8 innings without allowing any more runs while his Tigers build him a 5-3 lead. In the 9th, he turned it over to closer Jose Valverde, and that's when it fell apart. After a solo home run to Nick Markakis to cut the lead to one, Chris Dickerson came to the plate with 2 outs and 2 men on. Dickerson launched a walk off 3 run home run to propel the Orioles to the victory in the first game in the 3 game set.
4. May 31/June 1: San Diego Padres 4, Toronto Blue Jays 3 (F/17)
PETCO Park, San Diego, California

This game ended a few hours into Saturday, but it sure had plenty of excitement. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead off a Colby Rasmus home run in the 2nd, and made it 3-0 in the third when Edwin Encarnacion homered. But the Padres bounced back in the 5th. Jedd Gyorko brought in 2 with a double, and went to third when the Blue Jays came home with the throw. The runner was safe at home, and Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia fired wide to third, allowing Gyorko to score to tie it at 3. The teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the 17th, when Jesus Guzman's single brought Gyorko home, giving the exhausted Padres a big win.
3. May 25: San Francisco Giants 6, Colorado Rockies 5 (F/10)
AT&T Park, San Francisco, California

The Rockies' season had started surprisingly well for new manager Walt Weiss. They continued that in this game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the 4th. The Giants came back to tie it with 3 runs in the 6th and one in the 7th, led by catcher Buster Posey's 2 runs. No one would score again until Troy Tulowitzki homered in the 10th to give Colorado a 5-4 lead. But then in the bottom of the 10th, Angel Pagan hit a 2 run walk off inside the park home run, scoring Brandon Crawford and giving the Giants a walk off 6-5 win. Pagan's hit was the first walk off inside the park home run since 2004.
2. May 26: Boston Red Sox 6, Cleveland Indians 5
Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts

Let's just start in the 9th. The Indians have 5-2 lead, and close Joe Perez comes in to shut it down. He couldn't quite do that. After a walk, a hit, and two RBI outs, the Red Sox had quickly cut the lead to 5-4, but had two men out and no one on. Perez walked two more and allowed a single to Stephen Drew in between the walks. After the second walk and more than a few questionable balls and strike calls, Perez injures his arm and had to leave with a 2-1 count to Jacoby Ellsbury. The first Ellsbury saw was a fastball which he ripped into the left center field gap, scoring two, and giving the Sox their 9th win in their last 12, and 3 out of 4 against the Indians and former Red Sox manager Terry Francona.
1. May 29: Stanley Cup Playoffs, Western Conference Semifinals Game 7: Chicago Blackhawks 2, Detroit Red Wings 1 (F/OT)
United Center, Chicago, Illinois

It wasn't too long ago that the Blackhawks were down 3-1 in the series. They had 3 elimination games in a row, and they won all 3, two of them at home. Game 7 started with a scoreless 1st period, but Patrick Sharp gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead a minute into the 2nd. It would be almost exactly 20 minutes later when Henrik Zetterberg tied it 26 seconds into the third. After a potential game winning goal by Chicago with under 2 minutes left was called off, the teams went to overtime. Brent Seabrook capped the Blackhawks series comeback with a game winning goal early in overtime, setting up a Conference Final with the last 4 Stanley Cup Champions (Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh) for only the second time in NHL history.
I'll be back again next Saturday morning to bring the next 5 biggest games.
