Games of the Week 4/27 - 5/3
Posted on May 4, 2013 at 12:27 PM.
The choices this week were tough to make, because with the NHL Playoffs joining the NBA Playoffs in full swing, there are meaningful games every night. Baseball has a lot of games to pick from everyday, but only the best make it here. Let's have a look at those games:

5. May 2: Western Conference Quarterfinals Game 2 (Ducks lead 1-0): Detroit Red Wings 5, Anaheim Ducks 4 (F/OT)

After dropping game 1, the Red Wings needed to tie up the series before heading home. Heading into the third, they had a 3-1 lead. After Johan Franzen scored 0:20 into the third to make it 4-1, the Ducks lit a flame. They scored 3 unanswered goals to tie it up and send it into overtime. Psychologically drained, the Red Wings somehow managed to stay focused and took advantage of a Ducks penalty in regulation to score the game winning goal in overtime and tie the series up at 1.

4. April 30: Western Conference Quarterfinals Game 1: St. Louis Blues 2, Los Angeles Kings 1 (F/OT)

The Kings set off to defend their title, while the Blues hoped to take game 1 in front of the home crowd. Alexander Steen got an early goal, but no one else seemed to be able to score despite many solid chances by each time. With 32 seconds left in the third period and an empty net for the Kings, Justin Williams sneaks one in to tie it up at 1. In overtime, the Kings had a one man advantage when Steen wraps around the post and gets one by Quick for a 2-1 win and a 1-0 lead in the series.*

*The Blues now lead it 2-0.

3. May 3: San Francisco Giants 2, Los Angeles Dodgers 1

These two arch rivals started with another pitching duel, Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers against Barry Zito of the Giants. The Dodger started the scoring with a RBI single by Nick Punto in the 5th, but Buster Posey responded in the 6th with an RBI double to tie it at 1. After Sergio Romo held the Dodgers in the 9th, Posey came up big again with a walk off home run to left, giving the defending champs a 2-1 walk off win at home.

2. April 29: Oakland Athletics 10, Los Angeles Angels 8 (F/19)

Down 7-3 in the 8th, the A's rallied for the second day in a row to tie the score at 7 in the 9th on Yoenis Cespedes' RBI double. Each team was quiet in extra innings until the Angels got a breath of light in the 15th, when J.B. Shuck drew a bases loaded walk to give the Angels a 8-7 lead. The A's came right back in the bottom half when Adam Rosales hit a 2 out RBI single to tie the score at 8. It stayed that way until the 19th, when Brandon Moss hit a 2 run walk off homer to right, his second home run of the game, ending the 6 hour, 32 minute marathon of a game that ended at 1:41 AM Pacific and 4:41 AM Eastern.

1. April 27, Eastern Confernece Finals Game 4 (Bulls lead 2-1): Chicago Bulls 142, Brooklyn Nets 134 (F/3OT)

The Bulls were down 14 with 3:16 left in the game when C.J. Watson of the Nets missed a wide open dunk. That was the turning point. Nate Robinson took over, leading the Bulls on a 14-0 run to tie it up and send it into overtime. In overtime, Robinson struck again, hitting a shot over Deron Williams with 2 second remaining. But the Nets weren't done. Off the ensuing inbound, Joe Johnson hit a floater as time expired to send it into a second overtime. In the second overtime, Joakim Noah missed a layup with .04 second remaining, which sent the game into a third OT. The third OT was all Bulls. After Robinson and Noah fouled out, Luol Deng and Nazr Mohammed stepped up, helping the Bulls ice the game.

If you think I missed something, let me know.
