Toronto Blue Jays Franchise
Posted on April 5, 2012 at 09:27 PM.
So the day that OSFM came out I had already decided what team to do my franchise for this year with and that was the Toronto Blue jays. My reason for choosing them came down to a few things:
1) They play in the hardest division in the MLB, which happens to also have my favorite team, the Boston Red Sox
2) They have either the number 1 or number 2 farm system, depending on what website you get your information from.
3) They were one of the bottom two teams in the division, which will provide a challange in continuing to build the team and breaking through in the division.

I wanted to provide myself with some kind of challenge, instead of just choosing my favorite team and being World Series ready. They have a couple good Starting pitchers, a good hitting lineup, with more prospects coming up from the minors to build around. They also have a decent stadium, even though its older compared to some of the new ones being built around the league.

Before starting this blog I did play for a couple days, finally sitting down to write this afterward. I got through all of spring training simming through most of it, hand set my 25 man roster and other roster assignments, and made a few moves to fill in some weaknesses they currently had. I will be playing one game out of every series and will write a post after each series recapping the major points and any moves that happened, and will always be taking questions about some of the things I did and tried and also comments on what you would maybe like to see or things you saw that you have an opinion on.

To end this post I will discuss the moves that I have made up to this point, and later on tonight will sit down and start building my stat and depth chart tables to give you guys a full idea of what I'm working with so far. With that on to the trades.

First off I had to address what positions were most important to me and evaluate who we had starting in those positions. I noticed that the Blue Jays had what I feel is an extra Catcher prospect, having both J.P Arencibia and Travis d'Arnaud. While I like both of these players, I felt having both was overkill. So in my first move I sent d'Arnaud to the Washington Nationals for Ryan Zimmerman, while simultaniously moving Brett Lawrie to Second Base (which actually made his ratings go up, he is now the number 3 rated player on the team I believe). This then created no spot for Kelly Johnson (who personally I dont like) so I shipped him off to the Royals for Greg Holland. This game me a solid 3B defender with great contact and moderate power, and a great player at 2B, making my whole infield alot stronger. It also set me up with a good 7-8-9 rotation in the bullpen, with Holland pitching the 7th, Cordero my 8th inning guy, and Sergio Santos left as my closer for now. Should Santos struggle closing, it also gives me two guys I can fill in and shift my bullpen around, and gives my whole late innings a huge boost.

I played the first game of the season, against the Cleveland Indians ( and fared better than the Jays did today), winning 2-1. The main lines from the game were Romero: 1ER, 1K, .43 WHIP, Ubaldo Jiminez 2 ER, 8K, .38 WHIP. Low offence game, but provided that wanted challenge right off the bat. Bautista hit a HR to left, and also provided a sacrifice fly, going 1-3 with a HR and 2 RBI.

More of this to come, and leave any comments if wanted, I'd love to hear from you
