LeBron James one of the greatest players of all time. It's true I have no argument there, but I usually challenge myself when it comes to comparison to other greats trough out the years. I know it has been debated million times over even here on OperationSports, but I truly believe that I have to write down my opinion on the matter without getting marked. First of all I'm not a particular LeBron fan, but I have nothing but respect for him. I proved that he can play and can even win an MVP award when not backed up by serious star power, but when it comes to the Jordan comparison I really don't know how to react...
Why?
My answer is easy. When I really got into NBA basketball it was the early Jordan era. Since that time I saw someone that really showed me something. The next Jordan feeling. That one is none other than Kobe Bryant. Here I have to stop for a second and let everyone know that I'm not a Kobe fan, no not by far. I'm the Vince Carter type of guy, but this has nothing to do with that. Kobe Bryant has proven to me that despite everything he can outplay himself. Sure he can be too arrogant on the court, but if I'd score around 80 in an NBA game I would be too. He has accomplished everything there is to in the world of professional basketball with his age he still able to renew his play style make innovative maneuvers or score like a beast he really is. I really can only backup what I think with the last couple of years. Surely LeBron made an explosion and put his mark and his "legacy" already, but Kobe Bryant is a different case. I really feel that people forgot how much of a star he used to be or how much of a star he still is. Their physical attributes differ and I agree on that James's build is amazing, but that alone isn't something that can make a player. Kobe at the age 34 is still able to drop 40 even when is sick as hell he is still on league scoring leaders board. He is a 5 time NBA champion, 2 time finals MVP, MVP and I could go on about this. LeBron is different. While he has only 1 championship and 3 MVPs (an amazing feat in itself) he has to be judged differently. Since James is typical unselfish team player of the something I call the modern era (due to the many rule changes), he is different than Kobe and he wants to push his team, The Black Mamba on the other hand always wanted to win games for his team and that makes the two players incomparable in some regards. Just one little side note, LeBron James in a Small Forward/Powerforward who can guard all positions. Kobe Brynat is a Shooting Guard who can do the same, while he doesn't need anybody to lead him to a score. Sure Shaq did it when Bryant was young. The last mentioned feat can also be said about LeBron James. In my eyes Kobe did more in shorter time (and still shows he hasn't lost a step) than James. Based on what I saw from the two over their years in the NBA I think that still to this day Kobe Bryant is closer to the Jordan comparison than #6 James.

I was reacting to the media comparisons because quite frankly I got bored of the comparison. I do agree with you there, but those times were different. Play styles were different and so was everything else. I'd like to think that LeBron, Kobe and names like Shaq, Penny and so on shouldn't be compared to people who are established legends like Wilt or Bird, but they are the ones people should compare to. What I mean is that neither LeBron or Kobe needs an MJ comparison because they have their own legacy to give.

Lebron may not be the greatest player ever but hes damn close already, he will never be the killer michael was or the scorer but i bet hes a better teammate, passer and team defender than michael ever was. (micheal knocked his own team mate out in practise)
Lebron should be compared to magic, Bird, Wilt, Russel and ascar robertson. those guys are not considered the greatest but theyre all closer to the complete package of the perfect player than MJ.
p.s I love MJ and LBJ
