"Hello Brooklyn" said Deron Williams and gave hopes to the new friends
First things first, this only my humble opinion as a basketball fan who loves the game and nothing expert like, these are just what came to mind. With that being said let's get started with part one...
The Brooklyn Nets relocation shouldn't effect the team build at all, in fact I do thing that getting out of a financially unstable environment is a positive thing. I hah and kind of still have high hopes for the Nets. I never really understood why can't they get the number of wins that would be necessary. I see the "new" build and I don't see a team at all. I don't want to jump into conclusions after a couple of pre-season and 3 season matches, but something is going the right direction. I do think that Avery Johnson isn't the right kind of coach for this team. I'm not saying that he is a bad coach I don't have any kind of right to state that, but he can't handle this team. Let's break it down...
Starting Back Court - Front Court
Deron Williams
Deron Williams is one of the best all rounder point guards in the league. He can find a player, hit him with an assist and can score. But this doesn't mean that you don't have to play at a high level. It's clear that the lack of communication is a downfall at the back court. While Deron is trying to find his teammates, they are sometimes just not feeling the level of play Deron could bring, that leaves him or Joe Johson in the back court alone.
Joe Johnson
High caliber player, 6 time all-star one of the best shooting guards. He should be okay, but the expectation is too much. Sometimes I feel like Brooklyn think they got LeBron James or something. Johnson is good he is an outstanding player, but he is just one man. Again an all-star back court won't win the match in itself. Surely can hold off mediocre teams and score on them. Being new surely effects the chemistry, but not this much. Even though I do think that Joe is way above the average shooting guards and plays like he means it, he still needs to learn what's his role in the new atmosphere.
Gerald Wallace
Said to be old, yet he is a relative beast on the court. Injured or not Wallace can step up his game in situations average players can't. He is only 30 years old. A 30 year old player isn't old, rather passing his prime, but still have it. Wallace is great around the rim and occasionally can hit open mid rangers. He needs to be the veteran who that he is to keep the offense and defense balance. He needs to understand that he isn't as agile as he once was, but has the power to overthrow the defense, which he does. I think Wallace is underrated and Joe Johnson is bit overrated.
Kris Humphries
A forward I really really like. Kris is one of the few player's who has the ability to play better than he normally does, with that said as much as I think that he is good on defense and an overall well balanced player on offense he has to learn to create his shots. His major weakness on offense is that he can't create a shot or drive in traffic situation, he needs to be played way more than he should. With his 27 years of age he should be in his prime, but yet my humble opinion is that due to the coaching staff he still isn't. He sometimes surprises me with all-star like performance and then the next day he just seems like an average forward. As basic rebounder he can step into the role of the center's backup on the court. Make other teams trying to fight for the score. Kris has the physical attributes to be an offensive threat, a really really big threat.
More on the bench and centers soon...
