RR-S injury update....
Posted on April 22, 2009 at 03:28 PM.
Mariners pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith met Tuesday afternoon with team medical director Dr. Edward Khalfayan in an effort to get to the bottom of what's ailing his left arm. Rowland-Smith has been unable to throw for over a week, since going on the disabled list with left triceps tendinitis. "I feel miserable," Rowland-Smith said after Tuesday's game. "Just all the waiting around, but I have to be patient. It's not something too crazy like I'm going to be shut down for three months or something like that. It's just taking a little more time than I want it to."
Rowland-Smith spoke with Khalfayan on Tuesday and plans to have a more in-depth conversation with him today.
"I'm hoping we can come up with an action plan of some sort after that," he said.
While Rowland-Smith is eligible to come off the DL on April 26, it's highly unlikely he'll be ready by then. Rowland-Smith said there's been improvement in the arm, but it still feels somewhat aggravated and stiff.
Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said he plans to speak with Khalfayan today to discuss whether further steps or tests, including an MRI, would be needed.....I don't care if they use voodoo, we need that left handed pitching right now, RR-S was a nice part of the rotation, he can go long out of the bullpen or start. This will be one of those wait and sees.....
