Hampton makes early case for "Comeback Player"......
Posted on April 21, 2009 at 03:57 AM.

Mike Hampton allowed three earned runs on eight hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision effort Monday vs. the Reds.
That's back-to-back quality outings from Hampton, who blanked the Pirates over six innings last week to land his first win of the year. The injury-prone southpaw sports an attractive 18/6 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings. He takes his rock-solid 3.12 ERA to Minute Maid Park for an NL Central showdown against a struggling Brewers lineup. He has pitched some quality innings so far this season and although very early, barring injury, he is a candidate no doubt for a Comeback Player of the Year nomination.
