Minor league players to watch....
Posted on April 10, 2009 at 03:20 PM.
SS Carlos Triunfel: Mariners' shortstop of the future stole 30 bases last season and has some pop in his bat. He just turned 19, was signed by Mariners as a 16-year-old.
RHP Phillippe Aumont: The 6-foot-7 left-hander was shut down early last year because of elbow tendinitis. GM Jack Zduriencik has said Aumont will start in Class A this spring.
3B Matt Tuiasosopo: Woodinville HS grad could be ready to take over if Mariners don't keep Adrian Beltre beyond this season.
C Adam Moore: He might be the Mariners' starter now if Kenji Johjima wasn't creating a logjam at the position. He has hit well in the minors.
C Jeff Clement: Mariners don't seem to know what to do with Clement. Is he a catcher? A first baseman? A DH? They still think he can hit.
1B Mike Carp: Decent line-drive hitter, might not have the power teams usually look for in a first baseman.
RHP Michael Pineda: Dominican right-hander is 6-5, 20 years old. Had a 1.95 ERA and 128 strikeouts in 138 innings in Class A last season. M's minor-league pitcher of the year.
RHP Josh Fields: Scott Boras client was Mariners' first-round pick in 2008, didn't sign until February. He'll start in minors, but could be up soon.
OF Dennis Raben: Big, left-handed hitter has potential to hit for power. He was Mariners' second-round pick in 2008 draft.
OF Greg Halman: Mariners' minor-league player of the year hit 29 home runs, stole 31 bases splitting season between Class A and AA.
OF Michael Saunders: Struggled a little last season after promotion to Tacoma, but Canadian is still just 22 years old.
RHP Juan Ramirez: Nicaraguan right-hander, 20, had three straight nine-strikeout games last season for Class A Wisconsin.

I neglected to mention Mike Wilson...he showed better than avg power this spring leading the Ms with 8HRs...a big kid at 6'2" and 248lbs with alot of potential, very athletic...a highly recruited ( Middle Linebacker) football prospect, Notre Dame amongst other D-1 schools had him on their radar....he has decent speed....career .265 hitter (11 yrs in Minors) with 95 Hrs...will be tough for him to get much of a chance with the Ms this yr due to the number of outfielders on the roster and in Tacoma.
