Mariners have a Closer.....

Finally....some good news out of the Mariner camp. This afternoon they announced that Brandon Morrow will be the Closer and they have abandoned the "closer by committee" approach. Even a less desirable possibility was Miquel Batista being the finisher. I am sure he does the best he can....but after last year a guy can only expect the worse (Silva also) and hope for better. Anyway....this is some good news for the Ms contingency and I am predicting that not only will he fill the role nicely but he will exceed any expectations we Mariner fans can have.
One other item of interest that was mentioned during the Ms vs Royals game this afternoon....Jeff Clement will be starting the season in Tacoma (AAA) and Rob Johnson has won the backup catching job. Apparantly Clement is in need of some remedial throwing help....he hits more consistently than Johnson, no secret there...the surprise comes with management sacrificing a much needed bat for more defensive stability. I find this a smart move, the surprise to me...this is a change from the usual Mariner thought process. Maybe a sign of good things to come....we can only hope.
